Hi there, I'm Jacob!
Hi there! My name is Dr. Jake Mearse. I'm a psychiatric nurse practitioner practicing in Nevada. I take a "whole person care" approach to mental healthcare, recognizing that mind and body are deeply connected.
My approach
I practice a very client-centered model of care. My #1 rule of healthcare is that no one knows you better than you do! What you need from me may be very different than someone else with the same diagnosis. By listening and truly getting to know you, I aim to provide care that best fits your individual needs.
My focus
My specialties include PTSD and sexual trauma, addiction/recovery medicine, anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder and perinatal mood disorders. I see clients of all ages.
My communication style
I've lived all over the country (and the World), but I call Hawaii home. My personality tends to reflect that. I'm casual, informal, and pretty laid back. Patients often say I'm easy to talk to and a good listener.
My journey to mental healthcare
During my 25 years of military service, I was deployed to all corners of the World. I spent time in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, and about 40 other countries. One thing that I saw everywhere I went was an immense need for mental healthcare. When the Navy offered to send me back to school to provide psychiatric services, I jumped at the chance. I am now 7 years into retirement, and the need is just as great here at home.
My goals for you
Goal-setting is important, but needs to be realistic. I want my clients to experience a better quality of life, but that looks different for everyone. By working together, we can develop a realistic plan that fits your life and values.
My first session with you
Our first visit should be a "get to know you" type visit. I plan to do much more listening than talking, especially for our first meeting. I want to know your story, your struggles, and your dreams. We should finish our first visit with a solid plan to help you meet your goals.
