Dr. Jason Borrego, APRN, PMHNP, DNP

Family Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
FL
Jay Borrego, DNP, MBA, PMHNP-BC, CRNA, is a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner and the founder of Let’s Thrive Mental Health, a precision interventional psychiatry practice based in Coral Gables, FL. He cares for adults as well as children and adolescents (ages 6–17) through a structured pediatric program, with telehealth visits available across Florida. Jay’s approach combines evidence-based medication management and psychotherapy with advanced interventional treatments for people who haven’t found relief with standard care. Services include medication management, therapy, IV ketamine, Spravato (esketamine), TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation), and integrative wellness care. He treats depression, treatment-resistant depression, anxiety, panic, OCD, PTSD and trauma, bipolar disorder, ADHD, insomnia, and mood and behavioral concerns in children and teens. His background is unusual for psychiatry: in addition to psychiatric training, Jay is a board-certified nurse anesthetist with extensive hospital experience in anesthesia and procedural sedation. That experience shapes a safety-first, closely monitored approach to ketamine and other interventional treatments, and a comfort with complex medical histories. Patients can expect an unhurried first visit, clear explanations of options and trade-offs, and a plan built around their goals rather than a one-size-fits-all protocol. Jay practices measurement-based care, tracking symptoms over time so adjustments are driven by data, and collaborates closely with therapists, primary care providers, and families when appropriate. Care is offered in English and Spanish. New patients are welcome.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I run a precision, measurement-based practice. That means we don’t guess. At your first visit I take a full history of your symptoms, past medications and what did or didn’t work, sleep, substances, medical conditions, and what you actually want to be different in your life. From there we build a plan together, and we track it with short symptom scales at each visit so changes are driven by data, not by how either of us happens to feel that day. My style is direct and collaborative. I’ll explain what I’m thinking, lay out the real options with their trade-offs, and tell you when something is unlikely to help. You’ll leave every visit knowing exactly what the plan is and what the next step looks like. If you’re already working with a therapist or primary care provider, I coordinate with them when you want me to. My background is unusual: I’m board-certified both as a psychiatric nurse practitioner and as a nurse anesthetist, with years in hospital anesthesia. That shapes how I handle medications and medical complexity, and it’s why I’m comfortable offering interventional options like ketamine, Spravato, and TMS for people who haven’t gotten relief from standard treatment. A few things to know. Your first visit is an evaluation, not a guaranteed prescription. I prescribe what’s clinically appropriate after a full assessment and follow Florida telehealth rules on controlled medications. Please have your current medication list, pharmacy, and any prior records handy. If you’re in crisis right now, please go to the nearest emergency room or call or text 988; video visits aren’t the right setting for emergencies. I see adults, and children and teens ages 6 to 17 with a parent or guardian present. Visits are available in English or Spanish.
