Dr. Jeanne Birdsong, MD

Psychiatrist
720 N 3rd St, Wilmington, NC
I’ve been practicing psychiatry in Wilmington since 2004. I believe good care starts with a strong, trusting relationship. My goal is to create a space where you feel safe, respected, and truly heard. I understand that reaching out for help can feel overwhelming, and I strive to make the process as comfortable and supportive as possible. Together, we’ll explore treatment options that fit your unique needs and life. I work with adults facing many concerns, including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, attention deficit disorder (ADD/ADHD), psychosis, and dual diagnosis (when mental health and substance use challenges occur together). I also welcome those who aren’t sure what they’re struggling with but want to feel better. Each person’s path is unique, and I enjoy helping patients find the tools and strategies that fit them best. I chose psychiatry because I love connecting with people and having the chance to build ongoing relationships. I’m fascinated by how different people think, feel, and see the world, and I truly believe our differences make life rich and interesting. I’m grateful every day for the privilege of hearing personal stories and honored by the trust my patients place in me. I also respect the mind-body connection and strive to treat the whole person, not just symptoms. When it comes to treatment—especially medication—I take a balanced but conservative approach. I have open, thoughtful discussions so patients can make informed choices based on my recommendations and their preferences. When helpful, I collaborate with therapists and other providers to ensure you have the support you need. My staff and I are committed to protecting your privacy and confidentiality at every step (please see our Confidentiality & HIPAA policies for details). Above all, I want this to be a place where you feel welcome, valued, and supported.
