About Jeffrey Chen
I’m a New York state-licensed acupuncturist who spent 6 years in China and received my degree in Chinese Medicine from the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine. In my previous life, I also obtained a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Connecticut. I also have over 20 years of experience in various martial arts systems as well as 15 years of experience in meditation and qi gong. While in Beijing, I met and discipled under Shifu Zhao Ze Ren of the Beijing Wu Style Tai Chi lineage.
During my time studying in China, my body crashed in a bad way. A combination of stress from studying, toxic relationships, pollution (it's as bad as you've heard), and the general toll of being away from your home country for years put me in the worst condition of my life. Heavy fatigue, weight loss, constantly feeling as if I was bound in a straight jacket, and an extreme feeling of un-wellness led me on a journey of health that continues to this day. I devoted myself to the pursuit of wellness of mind, body, and spirit through herbal medicine, Tai Chi, and meditation. Now finally, more than 10 years later, I feel better than I ever have. I know firsthand what works and what doesn't. Let me share it with you.
It is no secret that Chinese medicine can be associated with pseudo-science and quackery. The flexibility and aliveness of the medicine naturally lend itself to being open for interpretation, for better or worse. I believe it is a strength that I was born and raised in the US, and especially that I studied engineering. I understand the rigors of the scientific method, but also its pitfalls. I also see the flexibility of the eastern arts but know to stay grounded in logic.
Aside from the pursuit of medicine, I have a daily practice that includes meditation, Tai Chi, and philosophy. I was taught that the principles of Chinese medicine must be experienced through self-cultivation and the development of virtue. I have found this to be a true statement.
