Patient reviews for Dr. Jennell Nelson
Dr Nelson was on time (only waited in the wxm room for about 5 minutes). Her bedside manner was wonderful. She was professional and knowledgable. Ut was a great experience.
Exceptionally professional, friendly, and courteous! Very happy Dr Nelson is in my community. I expect to be a long-term customer?
Terrible doctor and experience. I arrived to my 15 mins early (2:15) and wasn’t seen until 3:40, only after I threatened to leave and continued to question the staff. Dr. Nelson was among the staff members i questioned and she blew me off. She scurried into a patient’s room and then saw me. I didn’t know she was the doctor all along because she was sitting gossiping with the nurses.
My appt. was one of the best experiences with a Dr. in quite a few moons. Dr. Nelson is very friendly, listened to my concerns, offered outstanding alternatives and presented every option in ways I could understand. And her staff was equally patient. Looking forward to my follow up.
Best Dermatologist in N. Virginia
The front desk staff was incredible - very sweet and welcoming. (and I can't stress that enough. My low rating has absolutely nothing to do with them) However, when I was seen by the doctor for small patches of dry skin on my face, I was basically shamed. I was not treated like an adult, but like a misbehaving child. I was mocked for trying to remove dry skin with gentle exfoliants. I was told I wear too much makeup (sorry, mascara and mineral foundation is too much?) and that I was probably just allergic to the coconut oil I use at night to remove said makeup. I quote - "Do you have allergies?" "Well, sometime." "Yes or no?" "Seasonally, sure, yes." "You do realize that coconut oil is coconut pollen, right?" (side note - I am not allergic to coconut at all) She then prescribed something without telling me and I got a call from the pharmacy 2 days later asking when I would be there to pick it up. So, no, I do not suggest you visit this doctor. I understand everyone has bad days, but even on bad days, a doctor should not be treating a patient like they are irrelevant.
Dr Nelson is great, she takes her time and recommends several treatment options to try. I have only seen her twice and my issues are better. I highly recommend Dr Nelson.
The doctor and office staff were very friendly. The doctor fully listened to my concerns and explained treatment thoroughly.
I liked her a lot. Very professional and knowledgeable.
Dr. Nelson has always been very nice. She listens to my issues and concerns and explains everything in a way I can understand.
She was very nice and professional and she knew her stuff.
I enjoy giving my business to local businesses but this experience has made me reconsider. My appointment was at 3 PM (6/27) and I filled out all the paper work prior to arrival. I was not called back until 3:30 PM and was told at 3:45 PM that their was an emergency and that Dr. Nelson would be a while due to the emergency, which was fine. The assistant broke HIPPA law and told me what was going on with the patient. When Dr. Nelson came in at 4:15 PM, she started speaking to me aggressively. It’s caught me off guard so i just sat back and looked at her. She would ask a question and immediately interrupt your answer and also rush your thinking process. She shows no empathy nor speak in laymen’s terminology. She demeans you and does not recognize her negative energy she gives off. When she got up to leave she apologized for the wait and left me waiting now (15 minutes and counting ) up front. This is just unprofessional period. Needless to say I will not be doing a follow up.
Very good, thorough, and personable.
I've moved over to Dr Nelson's practice because she is knowledgeable and caring. I really enjoyed our visits with her and feel well informed about our concerns.
Dr. Nelson and her team were great!
Dr. Nelson is professional and takes time to listen to your concerns. I am pleased with the continuous improvements regarding my acne and pigmentation issues.
My visit to Dr. Nelson's office was literally, quick and painless. Using the online service, I was able to make an appointment easily and quickly. She examined my issue and immediately provided service. I highly recommend Dr. Nelson, and her staff.
Our visit was great, Dr Nelson was in the the room shortly after we arrived. She heard our concerns and came up with a plan that will be easy and quick.
Made appointment that morning and was able to be seen right away. Super job!
It was a good visit. The entire staff was very professional.
She is knowledgeable, but a 45 mimute wait time is unacceltable for someome who has strict office policies about wait times. I have a follow up appt in a couple of months and if the wait is similar I will look for a new dermatologist.
I felt rushed and minimized during my visit. I had expectations to finally discuss my skin concerns in detail with an expert and had prepared accordingly. I was disappointed when I hardly got to speak and my concerns were verbally belittled. The information provided about treatment options was contradictory and disheartening. In addition, communication was unclear by both the front desk staff and doctor, leaving me feeling embarrassed at multiple points throughout the visit. I left feeling worse than before the appointment. I hope this is not every patient's experience here, but I personally had no desire to come back.
Quick turn around from appointment to treatment. The staff was attentive and kind. Dr. Nelson was reassuring and approachable with questions regarding my treatment and next steps.
All I needed was a prescription refill. My appointment was canceled less than 24 hours beforehand. When it was rescheduled, I was in the waiting room for over 45 minutes. Once I saw the doctor, she spent five minutes with me and said she would send my prescription electronically to the pharmacy. When I went to the pharmacy a few hours later, no prescription was ever called in. I called the doctor's office and was placed on hold and got disconnected. When I called back, the staff told me Dr. Nelson had not called in the prescription yet, and to give her an hour to do so. Terrible experience from start to finish.
A well informed doctor who wants to help people and share her wisdom.
Best bedside manner ever!
Very professional. Was able to get a procedure completed without rescheduling.
Very personable & knowledgable
Other than a long wait, I am very pleased with Dr. Nelson. She and her staff were very friendly yet professional. She answered all my questions. I definitely would recommend her.
I've been to quite a few dermatologists and she's the only dermatologist that has prescribed a medication that is showing results into my melasma problem over my mouth.
Very nice, professional employees, and Dr was outstanding!
I appreciated that they were able to squeeze me in this morning! Office was beautifully decorated and very clean! Everyone was very nice! Loved Dr. Nelson! Highly recommend!!!
Dr. Nelson took the time to answer my questions and concerns. Highly recommend her!
Very long wait!!
Jennell Nelson is terrific. She is warm and sympathetic but highly professional; makes patients feel at ease and safe even when the diagnosis is worrisome.
Nice large space. Front office staff friendly. None of the staff that I saw wore name tags or any other identifying credentials, including the physician. Nurse assistant never introduced herself. I was a new patient so the jury's still out.
I enjoyed my visit and it was worth the wait to see the doctor.
I went to visit her office on 6/19/17. She advised me that there maybe a problem with the prescription. My pharmacist stated that they need a authorization from the dermatologist. I called and advised her staff of this. I am still waiting on my prescription to be filled by the pharmacy. I called again to get clarification as to why it is taking so long. I left a message last Friday and they never returned my phone. I just wanted a simple explanation. I had to make an appointment with another doctor.
It was okay
Dr. Did not have time to listen to my concerns
Horrible! Barely able to get a word in at all, only addressed one issue and then ran out, saying she'd be back. When a nurse came in with Rxs I had to ask that the Dr. come back for the 2nd issue. When she returned she was completely snotty & condescending. I get two overriding impressions: she wants to get it done quickly, not well & she's more concerned with the place looking professional than being one herself (in appearance or behavior). If it were just me, I'd be inclined to think it was a fluke, but I heard her speaking to another patient just as curtly and have since read many reviews, in many different places that convey similar feelings. I only chose to come to her in the first place because she accepts my insurance. My preferred Dr. doesn't, but I've learned here that I'm willing to take a hit if it means getting quality care elsewhere. **Also, this is all after they rescheduled my appt. twice!
It was excellent. I only had one minus and that is that she did not communicate what may have caused my conditions on the legs and face or eliminate cancer or major Ilness. Like amputation or permanent damage. I did enjoy my visit and plan to recommend her and keep her for years to come. I also plan to get a peel and Botox. I like her and she was genuinely interested.
The doctor took care of my problem. Staff was very nice.
I would not recommend going here. I wanted to find a dermatologist as I wanted an overall skin check because I had some moles and my mom had recently gotten some removed and I figured at 31 I probably should get a check and I'd been breaking out a lot. I read reviews here and on other sites and decided to go ahead and book an appointment. Once at the office I filled in paperwork and waited about 30 minutes before I was brought back and met with a nurse where I answered a few questions, after about 10 more minutes I saw Dr. Nelson. She was in the room for less than 5 minutes, barely looked over my skin and then prescribed me 2 acne medications/cremes and suggested I purchase a Glycolic/Salicylic Acids spray. After I changed the nurse came back and again suggested the spray as well as getting peels to help with my back. I asked about the prescriptions (and the nurse double checked my pharmacy) and was told to check out and the prescriptions would be ready. I was silly and purchased the spray (though I probably could have gotten it cheaper elsewhere) and was told go have a seat and they would call my name for the prescription when it was ready. I waited another 20 minutes and finally went up to ask -- first of all it is 2017 ALL of my other doctors send prescriptions electronically.... where they went back and 10 minutes later returned with paper scripts. The office staff was friendly but between barely seeing the doctor and then needing to wait 30 minutes for a paper prescription after and they kept up selling products and peels I was not happy with my first dermatologist visit and will be looking elsewhere to find a new one.
It's a busy practice but worth the wait. Dr. Nelson and her staff are great. I was looking for a practice that specialized in treating women of color and this was perfect.
The dr was very nice but it took just an hour to be seen when my appointment was at 11 wasn't seen until 12 so that's pretty unacceptable to me...
Extremely professional practice. The customer service of the staff was top notch. Dr. Nelson was extremely knowledgeable, put me at immediate ease although I entered her office concerned about my condition. I left smiling, calm and looking forward to my next visit!! In fact, I went in for one problem, now I'm looking forward to sampling some of the other offerings her office provides. Highly recommend Dr. Nelson!
I am very unsatisfied with the treatment I received. I felt the doctor rushed through my appointment. I came for treatment of scars which she made worse and now I have to go to another doctor to get further treatment. I would not recommend this practice at all.
