“I had a very positive experience. Went in for anxiety issues. Dr. Sharf strikes a nice balance between being supportive and also being gently challenging. Learned some strategies to reduce my symptoms, but honestly I think talking about the stuff I had been pushing aside for maybe too many years was just as helpful if not more so.”

“I worked with Dr. Sharf over ten years ago. I thought she was able to strike a nice balance between listening to me and my concerns and offering her own feedback. Therapy was hard work and took a while, but it really did help me feel better (partway through I changed jobs, which definitely helped, too). Right before the pandemic I went through a rough patch and met with Dr. Sharf again for a few booster sessions. I thought she might not remember me, but she totally did and it was nice to not have to tell my whole story all over again. Long story short, highly recommend!”

Getting to know Dr. Jennie Sharf

I help people with anxiety, depression, stress at work or home, and feeling stuck. A particular interest of mine is supporting those who have dropped out of previous therapy. I provide emotional support and a safe space for you to share your concerns. I am an active participant in therapy and offer new perspectives that challenge you to better understand and ultimately change self-defeating patterns. Together, we will work toward lasting emotional and behavioral change. I utilize psychodynamic psychotherapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), focusing on helping clients regulate emotions, tolerate distress, develop mindfulness skills, and enjoy more effective interpersonal relationships. I hold a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Adelphi University. I completed an internship in Clinical Psychiatry at Beth Israel Medical Center and a fellowship in Clinical Psychology at St. Luke's–Roosevelt Hospital Center. Additionally, I earned a Master’s in Interactive Telecommunications from New York University. With more than 15 years of experience providing psychotherapy and clinical supervision, I previously served as a senior staff psychologist at Mount Sinai Beth Israel and at the Pace University Counseling Center. I also worked for Project Liberty, New York’s FEMA-funded mental health response to 9/11.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am committed to providing a therapy environment that supports and affirms BIPOC and LGBTQI folks.
