Getting to know Jennifer Cox
I am a double-boarded nurse practitioner in Psychiatry and Family Medicine. My extensive clinical background allows me to see the whole picture, not just the symptoms. I practice functional medicine psychiatry, and I will work to find the origin of your problem so we can solve it together—no Band-Aids here!
I have also specialized in child/adolescent mental health for many years and am recognized by Riley’s Children Hospital for being a leader in the area.
My approach
My approach to mental health begins with a detailed history of your life, from birth to the present. We will then move around all the pieces until they fit, finding the true cause of any problems you may be experiencing, whether they are physical or mental-based. This marks the start of your healing journey. I have a wide range of strategies that can change your life if you're willing to do the work. My approach is more geared towards comprehensive life mapping and root cause analysis versus blindly treating symptoms and diagnosis. I always look at my patient's diet, food quality, sleep, GI issues, and more.
My focus
I have extensive experience working with severe child trauma, RAD, Autism, Special Forces Military, PTSD, TBI, Addictions, Down Syndrome along with a multitude of other developmental disabilities. Additionally, I study fitness, supplements, and sports psychology.
My communication style
I am laid back and enjoy humor. I can also provide tough love and help navigate through hard times while holding no judgments. Everyone has their struggles, no matter how complicated, and I have incredible empathy for fellow humans. I understand that people do not choose to live in turmoil. I have seen and heard about anything you can imagine.
