Getting to know Dr. Jessica Beachkofsky

Feeling overwhelmed? Don’t feel like yourself lately? Stop struggling and trying to white-knuckle your way through life when we can do this together with a little more ease. I’m Jessica Beachkofsky, MD (Dr. B), a board-certified psychiatrist in Florida. I earned my Doctor of Medicine from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and completed my residency in psychiatry at the University of Texas, San Antonio. I also hold a bachelor’s degree from the University of South Florida. I specialize in treating anxiety, depression, and trauma disorders and helping people successfully navigate life’s big hurdles and challenges. **BEFORE YOU SCHEDULE WITH ME… please know that I DON'T prescribe any controlled medications! NO stimulants for ADHD (Adderall, Concerta, Vyvanse, Ritalin, etc.), NO benzodiazepines for anxiety/panic (Xanax, alprazolam, Ativan, lorazepam, Klonopin, clonazepam, Restoril, temazepam, etc.), and NO controlled sleep meds (Ambien, zolpidem, Lunesta, eszopiclone, Sonata, zaleplon, etc.). But I DO prescribe medications that are safe and effective and will discuss how and why they can help you! If you’re new to the idea of medication or if you’ve had a less than ideal experience with meds in the past, I may be the perfect doc for you! You don’t have to feel rushed or pressured to make a decision about medications, and you don’t have to just take what I tell you to. Working with me means shared decision making once you feel you have the information that you need to make a choice that aligns with your values. When you feel good about your treatment, it’s more effective (and usually works faster!). Ready to get back to the YOU you’ve been missing? Whether it’s those tough grad school classes, a high-pressure career (or career change), or the challenges of parenthood, we can work through this to find the solutions that build you into the best version of you!

What should a new client know about working with you?

Wondering if it’s time to see a psychiatrist? Tired of feeling overwhelmed and ready to try something different? I’m Dr. B and together we can figure out which treatment path will be the best fit for you. To make your decision even easier… I offer virtual appointments (no app download required) Scheduling options like lunch and evening time slots Longer appointment times: 20 or 40 minutes (after a 75min intake) Combined therapy + medications to ensure you get the most out of our time together The long-term goal of graduating from care when you’re ready I’m NOT a great fit if: You don't want to consider medications at all You need prescriptions for controlled medications like those listed above You’ve had a recent mental health hospitalization You’re on medications that require regular labs and vital signs for management You’ve been having suicidal thoughts, or having trouble keeping yourself safe because of self-harm behavior **I strongly recommend IN-PERSON CARE if your situation is listed here Since I love brains and want to help you take care of yours, get ready to do some work! To get the most out of treatment with me you'll have to put in some effort. That may look like medication compliance, keeping a sleep or mood journal, or working on habit tracking and stacking. We’re going to address all of you, the whole you, from your physical health habits and self-care to emotional well-being and genetic predispositions. Then we’ll find ways to maximize your mental wellness. What makes working with me different? Two words: therapeutic alliance, which is really just a fancy way to describe our professional relationship where we work together to reach your treatment goals.  Having a strong, caring, positive therapeutic alliance with me, means better treatment results for you.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Let's find out what working together looks like... Starting out, we'll have a 15 minute screening call (that's what you're scheduling here) just to make sure we’re a good fit for working together and our expectations align. If we decide to work together, as my new patient you will have an initial 60 minute intake appointment, even if you just want to continue the medications you’re already on. This ensures we have enough time to review your mental health and medical history, medications and supplements, and any current concerning symptoms. We will also discuss what diagnoses I think you meet (and why) and what treatment options might work best. Then you get to decide where we go next! For patients just starting medications or changing doses I recommend a 2-4 week follow up appointment. Once your medication regimen is stable, appointments can be spaced 1-3 months out. I always combine therapy with medications even for short appointments. But for patients who want to dig in a little deeper, I generally recommend 40-60 minute appointments every 1-3 weeks depending on what we’re working on and your treatment goals. Remember though, I don't prescribe any controlled substances: so no Xanax (alprazolam), Ambien (zolpidem), Ritalin (methylphenidate), etc. (which are common examples) but most mental health meds are fine! And if you have issues staying safe during treatment (recent mental health hospitalizations, feeling chronically suicidal, or having suicidal thoughts recently) then I recommend in-person care instead of my virtual-only practice. The $ question. I accept Aetna, Cigna, Oscar, Oxford, and United but can provide a superbill if you’d like to try for reimbursement from your insurance after paying for your appointment. I don't handle the billing directly, I use a company called Headway.co and before we start care you can make an account with them. It's easy, I promise.

Out-of-pocket fees and assistance

More information on payments and coverage

I accept insurance through a company called Headway (I do not file directly; you pay them and they pay me). To find out your co-pay you can create an account with them and based on your insurance Headway will provide you with your expected co-pay for each visit. That way you will know what to expect up front! If I am not in your insurance network, after each appointment I will send you a medical receipt (superbill) to submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement of your payment.   For private pay patients I accept credit cards (also through Headway) and my current rates are $425 for an initial 75 minute appointment, $260 for a 40 minute follow up and $160 for a 20 minute follow up.

Dr. Beachkofsky is compassionate, kind, and knowledgeable! I always feel better after visiting with her and I love that I can say exactly what’s on my mind. I highly recommend her!
I AM EXTREMLY PLEASED WITH TREATMENT AND RECOMENTATIONS GIVEN BY DR. BEACHKOFSKY. HER PATIENCE DURING VISITS ARE SO HELPFUL AND IT RELIVES ANY PREVIOUS ANXITIES I MAY HAVE HAD. DURING MY VISITS DR. BEACHKOFSKY IS NEVER RUSHED OR IN A HURRY TO END CONVERSATIONS. THIS MAKE ME FEEL INSTANTLY RELIEVED OF ANY WORRIES. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND DR. BEACHKOFSKY TO ANYONE SEEKING HELP.
Dr. Beachkofsky was awesome! I felt like she really listened to me and validated my feelings and concerns. I would definitely recommend her to anyone seeking a professional, attentive, personable psychiatrist.
Dr. B really listens, is patient, and takes time to explain things. I’d never taken medication before and was really worried but she explained everything like what to expect, side effects I might have, and how long it would take to start working. It made the whole thing feel a lot more comfortable and now I’m feeling much better! Highly recommended!
I think Dr. BEACHKOFSKY is amazing and I am so glad she is my doctor. She has made better choices with my medication’s for me and made me understand why they are better choices.. she listens and makes me feel at ease. I am never without my meds, and she always has a great smile and attitude about everything I’m going through and I honestly feel like she is family. Thank you.
Great doc, made me feel heard and took the time to listen to my questions and provided answers that I could understand. She discussed multiple treatment approaches and helped me decide what would work best for me. Highly recommend!
Dr. B is exactly the kind of psychiatrist I was looking for. She listens carefully and takes into account all factors when reaching a diagnosis. She deeply explains and collaborates with me in defining a treatment plan. She's not the kind of psychiatrist who spends five minutes with you and sends you on your way with pills. Dr. B works with you and is nothing short of a kind, humble and empathetic practitioner. I feel so lucky to have found her and would recommend Dr. B to anyone that wants to get to the root of their challenges and make some real progress. She's also got a great sense of humor so I love that.
Dr. Beachkofsky is the BEST. She is so thoughtful and you can tell she really cares about her patients. We had an issue when I switched my insurance and she was SO helpful in the process. Would recommend her to anyone :)
Dr. B is always super friendly and makes me feel comfortable talking to her. She’s made sure I get the best meds and dosage for me and has been very patient with me. I feel like she really cares about my mental health improving.
I have known Dr. Beachkofsky professionally for over a decade and have consistently been impressed by her commitment to staying sharp with the latest literature, integrating compassionate, holistic care into each time she sees a patient and her humor which can’t help but spread. She understands the seriousness of life and has empathy but also embraces the levity as well. I would absolutely entrust my own family to her care if needed. If you are on the fence about reaching out - just do it! You will be glad you did! - Dr. Rebecca Burson
