“The provider listened to all my concerns and was transparent about the care she could provide. I did not end up continuing care with her because she did not think I was suited for telemedicine, but I appreciated the honesty and that she was more concerned about my well-being than telling me to book another appointment and getting paid.”

Getting to know Dr. Jessica Matthews

Dr. Jessica Matthews is a staff physician who is board certified in general psychiatry. Her practice focuses primarily on medication management, which she typically offers alongside supportive and cognitive behavioral–focused therapy during 30-minute follow-up visits. However, Dr. Matthews may determine that additional therapy is needed and encourages you to bring a therapist into your care team to achieve the best outcome. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from St. Mary’s University before receiving her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. She completed both her internship and residency in psychiatry at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, HI. After training, she was stationed at Fort Hood, TX, where she worked as a staff physician in the inpatient unit at Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center before becoming the inpatient medical director. She then served as a staff physician and later clinic chief in the outpatient embedded behavioral health clinics. Dr. Matthews continued as a staff physician after leaving the military. While she has treated a variety of patients, her primary focus has been on adults with depression, anxiety, and stress- or trauma-related disorders.

Because we accept insurance, we can reduce out-of-pocket expenses and still offer high-quality care. You may not have any cost related to your visit with us, depending upon your insurance plan. Most patients pay a small copay per visit, subject to any deductible or coinsurance that your health plan has. The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services determines appropriate billing guidelines. These guidelines depend on the length of the visit and the complexity and severity of your diagnosis. For this reason, we need to wait until after the visit for the final determination. We then submit the claim to your insurance company. The charges are calculated based upon pre-negotiated prices with your insurance company. Your insurance company will then determine what amount, if any, is your responsibility per your insurance plan.

Good experience. Was professional and listened to my needs.

She would not prescribe me medication which I have been on for 15 years because I would not also take a mood stabilizer at the same time. We should have some agency in our own treatment! I waited a month for this appointment and in the end I did not get a medication prescription to the meds I've been on (and she can see the history), as well as ended up with a massive bill from Talkietry. 1000% would not recommend.

Ms. Matthew is very knowledgeable, professional and caring. She is empathetic and easy to talk to. I am very honored and grateful she accepted me as a client. I would definitely recommend her to any of my family members and/or friends.
Verified patientVideo visit
Very kind but if you’re going through something out of the normal, she may suggest you get seen in person. I would go back if I wasn’t in my condition.

She was fantastic! Can’t wait to see her again :)

Dr. Jessica Matthews was easy to talk with, personable, and empathetic. However, after 1 hr Telehealth visit, she declined to take me on as a patient, apparently because of my complex medical history (not complex psych history). Having depression as reason I made appt, this left me feeling rather hopeless and as if there is no one who can help me. She did offer to help find local Psychiatrist (I've been unable to find any taking new patients (and accepts my Major Medical Insurance... thus excited to find one through ZocDoc). I've not heard or received anything from her. Don't intend to leave negative review, just a heads up for others... if you have medical problems and list of meds, probably forgo this Psychiatrist. The hope I felt in finally finding a Psychiatrist ended up a huge letdown and feeling rather dejected, hopeless, and more depressed.

She talked to me for over an hour and then told me at the very end she couldn’t treat me. Her office sent me a list of referrals which was just a note saying they had no one who could help me. Thanks for nothing.
Verified patientVideo visit
Very patient and thoughtful physician who asked appropriate questions and sought the right level of detail in order to provide helpful guidance. Talking to her was very easy and enjoyable.
