Getting to know Dr. Joel Breving

Hi, I am a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist as well as an Adult Psychiatrist and see patients of all ages at my clinic in Shreveport, LA. I recently started a private practice but also offer Tele-health appointments, recognizing that mental health care can be difficult to access. I earned my Doctor of Medicine from the University of Toledo, completed my residency and fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Virginia, and hold a Master’s in Reproductive Biology from Johns Hopkins University.
For adults, I primarily provide medication management with a holistic approach. When working with children and adolescents, my approach remains holistic but places a stronger emphasis on family dynamics. I believe healing is best achieved by addressing not only the patient but also the broader context, recognizing the multiple moving and dynamic processes involved. Especially with younger patients, I am cautious about prescribing medications until both the family and I have a clear understanding of the situation and a solid plan in place.

Dr. Breving is kind and understanding. He is extremely knowledgeable and non-judgmental. Although the city of Shreveport in particular and the State of Louisiana as a whole are experiencing a shortage of mental health care providers, you can feel safe and SEEN by this provider. As an individual studying within the social sciences and experiencing the need to care for my mental health simultaneously, I can emphatically state that Dr. Breving is a someone you can feel safe adding to your care regiment.

I would definitely recommend Dr Breving to anyone that needs someone to listen. After just a few minutes I felt like I was opening up to my older brother who used to be there for me to do so with back in the day. He seemed genuinely interested in what I had to say and was speaking to me and not down to me as if I were a bother. I found my therapist even if only for a short time.

I set the appointment up for 5:00 never heard from them not a text message not a call I called them I text messaged them ask questions even set up other appointments still didn't hear anything and I needed to see the doctor today it was very important and emergency
