Dr. Joel Esteban Rodriguez Vega was born in New York and raised in Houston, Texas. After obtaining an undergraduate degree in Molecular Biology and playing NCAA Soccer at Texas Lutheran University, he returned to Houston to perform research at The University of Texas Health Science Center. Dr. Rodriguez was honored to attend his family’s alma mater at the Universidad Central del Caribe medical school in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. After medical school, he further developed his passion for exercise medicine and research with a Master’s in Aerospace physiology & health at King’s College in London, UK. He returned home to attend the Houston Methodist Hospital Family Medicine residency program and became board certified in Family Medicine. He then completed a Primary Care Sports Medicine fellowship at Christus Santa Rosa in San Antonio, where he experienced care for athletes of all ages along with professional athletes including the San Antonio Spurs.
Dr. Rodriguez is experienced in musculoskeletal injury prevention and management, ultrasound-guided injections and rehabilitation for return to performance. Dr. Rodriguez is a member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine and the American Academy of Family Physicians.
