Dr. Whittier is primarily focused on medication management of general psychiatric conditions. He approaches each client as an individual, using the one-hour initial intake to get a comprehensive look at each person’s unique needs. From there, he works with his clients to provide options and flexibility in the treatment plan, utilizing a combination of supportive therapy, medications, and evidence-based alternative therapies. Follow-ups typically last 20 to 30 minutes, with the goal to evaluate the treatment plan and adjust accordingly. He also maintains a psychodynamic psychotherapy panel for hour-long appointments, where he works with his clients to understand developmental and relational patterns that contribute to their symptoms.
Dr. Whittier attended the University of Colorado at Boulder, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology. He then obtained a master’s degree in Medical Science at Loyola University Chicago and earned his Doctor of Medicine from the Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine at the University of Vermont. He returned to Colorado for his psychiatry residency at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, where he specialized in the psychotherapy scholars program.

Because we accept insurance, we can reduce out-of-pocket expenses and still offer high-quality care. You may not have any cost related to your visit with us, depending upon your insurance plan. Most patients pay a small copay per visit, subject to any deductible or coinsurance that your health plan has. The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services determines appropriate billing guidelines. These guidelines depend on the length of the visit and the complexity and severity of your diagnosis. For this reason, we need to wait until after the visit for the final determination. We then submit the claim to your insurance company. The charges are calculated based upon pre-negotiated prices with your insurance company. Your insurance company will then determine what amount, if any, is your responsibility per your insurance plan.
