Getting to know Johnny Johnson

Psych NP. ADHD, depression, anxiety, PTSD, insomnia, hormones, weight. Ages 15 to 50.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I'm a psychiatric nurse practitioner, and I don't take myself too seriously. The work? Absolutely. But I've found that people open up more when the room doesn't feel like a courtroom. I see teens and adults ages 15 to 50 dealing with ADHD, depression, anxiety, PTSD, insomnia, hormone issues, and weight. If you're dragging through your days, can't focus, can't sleep, or just feel like something's been off for a while, that's exactly the stuff I work with. I'm direct. I'll tell you what I'm seeing and what I think we should do about it. But I'm also not here to lecture you or make you feel like a case study. You're a person, not a diagnosis. I want to know what's actually going on in your life, not just what boxes you check on an intake form. Also, I'm told I'm funny. Results may vary.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

First visit is about getting the full picture. I want to hear what's going on, what you've already tried, and what hasn't worked. I'll ask about sleep, stress, habits, relationships, all of it. The stuff that shows up in how you feel but doesn't always make it onto a symptom checklist. From there, we come up with a plan that makes sense for your actual life. Medication is one option, not the only option. And if we do go that route, I'm not just going to throw something at you and hope it sticks. We track it, we adjust, we make sure it's actually helping. Follow-ups are about staying on course and catching problems early. If something's not working, we change it. No point sticking with a plan that isn't getting you anywhere.
