Getting to know Dr. Jonathan Rapps

I am a board-certified psychiatrist with particular expertise in the evaluation and treatment of OCD, ADHD, anxiety disorders, and depression. I provide psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and supportive psychotherapy for children, adolescents, and adults. I have offices on Long Island, NY and in Teaneck, New Jersey, and offer telehealth appointments for patients located in New York, New Jersey, Florida, California, Pennsylvania, and Colorado. I enjoy working collaboratively with therapists to provide coordinated, comprehensive care. I believe medication should be prescribed thoughtfully and conservatively, recommending it only when clinically indicated because symptoms are sufficiently impairing or therapy alone has not provided adequate relief. My goal is to understand each patient’s unique strengths, challenges, and goals so that we can develop a treatment plan together. I strive to provide care that is warm, thoughtful, and rooted in trust. Please note: New patients are asked to complete intake paperwork in advance of the visit. Appointments with incomplete forms may need to be rescheduled.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I take a thoughtful, individualized approach and do not assume that medication is always necessary. When medication is appropriate, I explain the options, expected benefits, risks, and alternatives so that we can make decisions collaboratively. I also value close coordination with therapists and other clinicians.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The initial evaluation focuses on understanding your symptoms, history, goals, strengths, and prior treatment experiences. We then review the diagnosis and treatment options together. Follow-up visits assess progress, side effects, functioning, and whether the treatment plan should be adjusted.

I’ve been seeing Dr. Rapps for some time. I found him to be very knowledgeable in his field. He was attentive and very helpful with addressing my specific concerns. He was personable and responded to my questions in a timely manner. I highly recommend Dr. Rapps.
Dr. Rapps is an exceptional doctor. He’s incredibly smart, knowledgeable, and attentive. He listens carefully, never rushes, and always makes sure you’re comfortable with your treatment. He doesn’t push medication - instead, he checks how you’re feeling and makes thoughtful adjustments. When I had headaches from my meds, he suggested drinking more water - a simple tip that made a big difference. As an older college student, I appreciate that he checks how treatment affects my daily life and studies. He also listens to personal concerns with empathy, never judgment. That’s what I mean by outstanding bedside manner - he treats you like a whole person, not just a patient. Dr. Rapps is also great with communication. He sends email reminders and calls if you miss an appointment, showing he really cares. I’m grateful for his care and highly recommend him.
