Getting to know Dr. Jonathan Rapps

I am a psychiatrist dedicated to understanding each patient’s unique challenges and fostering meaningful progress. I’ve always been fascinated by what shapes our emotions, decisions, and sense of purpose. That curiosity led me to study psychology at Yeshiva University, earn my MD from Sackler School of Medicine in Tel Aviv, and complete psychiatry residency at Community Memorial Healthcare, where I served as Chief Resident and helped establish psychiatric services at Cal State Channel Islands. I’m currently completing a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Northwell/Zucker Hillside Hospital, with an elective specializing in Tics and OCD. My approach blends psychotherapy and medication when needed, always with a conservative, collaborative mindset. I work closely with therapists to ensure coordinated care and clear communication. Above all, I strive to provide treatment that is warm, thoughtful, and rooted in trust — helping patients gain stability, confidence, and a more fulfilling connection to their lives. Why work with me Choosing a psychiatrist is personal. You deserve someone who listens closely, respects your concerns, and involves you in every decision. I take a thoughtful, collaborative approach to care — never rushing into medication and always explaining risks, benefits, and alternatives. I work closely with therapists to ensure coordinated treatment and clearer outcomes. My goal is to help you feel understood, supported, and genuinely better — with care tailored to you. Please note: New patients are asked to complete intake paperwork in advance of the visit. Appointments with incomplete forms may need to be rescheduled.

I’ve been seeing Dr. Rapps for some time. I found him to be very knowledgeable in his field. He was attentive and very helpful with addressing my specific concerns. He was personable and responded to my questions in a timely manner. I highly recommend Dr. Rapps.
Dr. Rapps is an exceptional doctor. He’s incredibly smart, knowledgeable, and attentive. He listens carefully, never rushes, and always makes sure you’re comfortable with your treatment. He doesn’t push medication - instead, he checks how you’re feeling and makes thoughtful adjustments. When I had headaches from my meds, he suggested drinking more water - a simple tip that made a big difference. As an older college student, I appreciate that he checks how treatment affects my daily life and studies. He also listens to personal concerns with empathy, never judgment. That’s what I mean by outstanding bedside manner - he treats you like a whole person, not just a patient. Dr. Rapps is also great with communication. He sends email reminders and calls if you miss an appointment, showing he really cares. I’m grateful for his care and highly recommend him.
