Getting to know Jornayra Powell-Gross

With many years of experience in mental health and substance abuse, I am a devoted and highly motivated nurse practitioner. I hold a Master's in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing from the University of Cincinnati, a Master's in Nursing from Bowie State University, and a Bachelor's degree from the University of Notre Dame. I have a broad range of medication management experience across the lifespan, including ADHD, substance use disorders, mood disorders, and personality disorders, to name a few.
I firmly believe that open communication between myself and you, a strong focus on attending to your concerns, and addressing all of your questions are the cornerstones of good medication management.

As the appointment time approached no one had reached out to me. I called the provider and got a voice message. I left a message saying this is the time of my appointment. It wasn’t until almost an hour later that she reached out to me. She attempted to reschedule for a couple of hours later. Then she tells me I have a $500 deductible. I’m explaining that I’ve used mental health services before and that all I have is a $10 copay. So now I’m irritated for two reasons so I decided I would look for a different provider.

The appointment with flawlessly. We spoke about relevant subject matter and shared a few laughs. She was clear on what we were expecting to accomplish during intake and stood true to that. She is kind, a great listener, respectful and made me feel comfortable, seen, and heard.

After our first appointment, which was very good, she forgot to schedule my next appointment we had agreed on. So I go to get ready for the appointment only to find out there was never an appointment made, and I waited two weeks. I schedule another appointment for the next day and never received instructions on how to join the video call from the office. So two days in a row I had an appointment I was ready for, that my provider was not. I even called the office both days and attempted to reach the provider by leaving voicemails, hoping to still complete the appointment but calls were not returned until later. Seems like their first appointments go great and she wants you to leave her a review, and then it all goes downhill.

She is just who I needed to talk to in such a rough time. She gave me some tips about a few things that I could start immediately to try to alleviate some of my symptoms. I felt she listened to me, and really cared. I'm so glad I chose her and look forward to our next appointment.

I love her! She listens, and provides alternatives when something isn’t working. She’s very flexible with her treatments, very thorough with bloodwork etc. to ensure the pharmaceuticals are safe for each patient. I’ve never had such a pleasant encounter when dealing with mental health professionals.

Dr. did not show up to my appointment. Did not send video link. She simply did not show up on the day of my appointment. I called the number on file 3 times and left a voicemail. I did my part by completing intake forms, sending insurance cards etc. The tasks checklist was completed on my end. I will never reschedule with her and this could be a sign that I need to return to my old provider.
