About Joseph Zehentner
Dr. Joseph M. Zehentner is a board-certified podiatric surgeon, certified by both the American Board of Podiatric Medicine (ABPM) and the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery (ABFAS). Born and raised on eastern Long Island, Dr. Zehentner is proud to serve the community he calls home.
He earned his undergraduate degree in Biomedical Science from Quinnipiac University, graduating magna cum laude with minors in Chemistry and Microbiology. He then received his Doctorate from the New York College of Podiatric Medicine in Manhattan, where he was actively involved in medical education as both a tutor and Anatomy Teaching Assistant. During this time, he also volunteered at community foot screening events and served on the medical team for the NYC Marathon.
Dr. Zehentner completed a rigorous three-year podiatric medicine and surgical residency at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, New York, where he served as Co-Chief Resident. His training included advanced reconstructive surgery of the forefoot, rearfoot, and ankle.
He has pursued additional advanced training through the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS) Foot and Ankle Arthroscopy Surgical Skills Course, the Bako Diagnostics Dermatopathology Fellowship, and the Podiatry Institute Forefoot Surgical Skills Course.
Dr. Zehentner is a dedicated and compassionate physician who prioritizes patient education and individualized care. He takes pride in thoroughly explaining diagnoses and treatment plans, ensuring patients feel informed and confident in their care.
His clinical interests include foot and ankle sports medicine, trauma, diabetic wound care, and elective procedures, including minimally invasive surgery (MIS) for bunion deformities.

Office scheduling is well managed and I have typically been seen within 5 minutes of scheduled appointment time. Dr. Zehentner has been helpful with asking good questions as well as answering mine. He’s also been helpful with explanations about causes for my issue and remedies to address them. I highly recommend the practice and him in particular.

Being a new patient I was very pleased with my entire visit. The front desk personnel were friendly & patient. Dr. Zehentner was very good. He explained my condition with clarity as well as the possible treatments. I was definitely very pleased with my entire visit at Suffolk Foot & Ankle in Riverhead.

Staffs was friendly, once I filled out the rest of my paperwork I was taken back for X-rays, the girl who did the X-rays was very sweet. After the X-rays I waited a few minutes until the Dr. came in. He communicated well, listened to my issues and I did not feel rushed like at other drs offices. I would recommended 10/10. What a great experience!
