I came to medicine by way of the classroom. After graduating from Yale, I spent three years teaching middle school science and math in Manhattan and the Bronx, then went on to medical school at SUNY Downstate and psychiatry residency at Brown. What drew me then still drives me now: I wanted to spend my life paying close attention to other people. Since residency I've worked in nearly every setting psychiatry has to offer — VA outpatient clinics, adolescent inpatient units, community mental health, a university counseling service, and partial hospital programs. That range taught me something I carry into every first meeting: no two people arrive at the same place for the same reasons. Alongside the clinical work, I committed myself to becoming a genuine therapist, completing a five-year training in psychoanalysis at the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute. I believe therapy is the heart of this work — that lasting change comes through relationship, understanding, and coming to know the patterns we carry. I prescribe medication when it helps, but I understand it as an adjunct to the deeper work rather than a substitute for it. Attachment — how each of us learned to need, to trust, and to be close to others — is the lens I return to again and again. An initial evaluation is an unhurried conversation in which I try to understand you — your history, your patterns, what brings you now, what you're hoping for. I offer psychiatric assessment, medication management, and individual and group therapy. My practice is cash-pay and out-of-network; I don't bill insurance directly, though I can provide a superbill you may submit for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Fees are discussed before we schedule.
