Dr. Zackson is a clinical psychologist with more than two decades of clinical experience. She holds a license to practice psychology in both Connecticut and New York State. Dr. Zackson graduated with honors from Columbia University and earned her Ph.D. from the Graduate Center at the City University of New York, one of the top programs in the country accredited by the American Psychological Association. Dr. Zackson works with a range of clients, from adults, adolescents, parents, couples, to business leaders and corporations. Her treatment approach is solution-focused, helping clients identify and manage emotions that might be getting in the way of achieving their goals so they can live a better quality of life. Her treatment area of focus includes OCD and anxiety (worry, social anxiety, panic attacks), concentration difficulties/ADHD, depression and mood disorders. She also specializes in relationship and pregnancy stresses, parenting issues and various forms of eating disorders and addictions.
Based on her experience as a child of volunteering at a local hospital and nursing home, Dr. Zackson initially decided to acquire training as an operating room nurse. She developed clinical expertise in patient care, an in-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology, and a deep interest in the mind-body connection. This led her to pursue a Ph.D. in clinical psychology, which enhanced her clinical expertise and deepened her understanding of the mind-body connection, as well as of the importance of understanding people through a holistic (biological and psychological) lens.
Dr. Zackson completed her clinical training at Columbia University Medical Center, New York University, and Kings County Hospital. Dr. Zackson was a researcher on a NIMH funded-study at Columbia University, which focused primarily on adolescents abusing chemically-addictive substances or who were at imminent risk of developing substance abuse problem. Dr. Zackson has extensive training in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT; developed by Dr. Aaron Beck) and mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR; pioneered by Jon Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School) and specialized training in eating disorders, addictions and compulsions. She is also trained in transference-focused psychotherapy (TFP; based on Dr. Frank Yeoman’s work at Weil Medical College of Cornell University).
