Getting to know Julia Nevitt
Julia B. Nevitt, MSN, RN, PMHNP, is a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with a decade of acute care nursing experience and advanced clinical training in outpatient and crisis psychiatric settings. Before becoming a nurse practitioner, she spent many years in hospital-based nursing roles, including staff nurse, charge nurse, and preceptor, experiences that helped shape her calm, approachable, and dependable style of care.
Julia completed her PMHNP training at Stony Brook University and graduated in May 2026 with 600 supervised clinical hours in psychiatric nursing. Her training included a crisis-focused rotation at Family Service League’s Diagnostic, Assessment, and Stabilization Hub, where she conducted rapid psychiatric evaluations across the lifespan, completed suicide and violence risk assessments, developed individualized safety plans, and participated in medication initiation and management, including medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for substance use disorders.
She also completed extensive outpatient psychiatric training in private practice settings, where she conducted comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, helped diagnose mood, anxiety, ADHD, and trauma-related disorders, and participated in treatment planning, psychotropic medication management, supportive therapy, psychoeducation, and motivational interviewing under supervision. Her background reflects strong clinical judgment, interdisciplinary collaboration, and a patient-centered approach that considers the whole person rather than only symptoms.
Julia believes that effective psychiatric care begins with understanding each patient’s current circumstances, strengths, and goals. She values open communication, thoughtful medication management, supportive education, and collaborative care planning.
