About Dr. Karen Burke
Dr. Karen Burke, MD, PhD, is a Board-Certified Dermatologist and research scientist with extensive training, including a Doctor of Medicine from New York University, a Dermatology Residency at New York University, and a PhD in Biophysics from Cornell University, where she also completed a fellowship. She has been recognized as a “Top Doctor – NY Metro Area” by Castle-Connolly for 24 years. Dr. Burke treats all adult and pediatric dermatologic problems involving the skin, hair, and nails, specializing in cosmetic medical antiaging skincare and treatments such as fillers, Botox, radiofrequency, and laser, as well as skin cancer. She is known for her caring patient relationships, non-rushed consultations—often spending more than one hour with new patients—and meticulous attention to detail, especially in screening for abnormal moles, precancers, and skin cancer.
She manages a wide range of skin conditions including acne, rosacea, eczema, itching, moles, aging skin, skin precancer and cancer, hair loss, hives, allergies, psoriasis, warts, herpes, shingles, discoloration, excess sweating, fungal infections, nail abnormalities, and other skin diseases, as well as cosmetic concerns.
As a Clinical Professor of Dermatology at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, NY, Dr. Burke researches topical antioxidants to reverse skin aging and prevent skin cancer, holding two patents in this area. She also investigates a novel T-cell immunotherapy treating all cancer types, initially focusing on metastatic melanoma, prostate, lung, and ovarian cancers in terminal patients.
Dr. Burke was among the first to demonstrate that topical retinoic acid effectively treats photodamage and conducted pioneering studies on collagen and hyaluronic acid implants for wrinkles and scars. She has also researched fat structure and metabolism. My goal is to provide comprehensive, compassionate care tailored to each individual's unique needs.

My concerns were discussed and my questions were answered. The receptionist was nice and the doctor was thorough and kind. The office and waiting area are clean and comfortable.
A few issues. 1. She was 15 minutes late. 2. When she arrived, she was instructing the new receptionist about how to do things, further delaying my appt. 3. All the records are on paper, and she takes handwritten notes, so the entire process was very slow, taking 2 hours. 4. She is chatty. Not an issue if you don’t have anywhere to be, but if you need to be in and out quickly, not sure I’d recommend this doctor. 5. I had to call my insurance company in the waiting room to figure out my copay because she didn’t know how to interpret my insurance card. 6. Hard to find her office as it’s within an apartment complex.
Overall, she clearly knows her stuff and enjoys her work. She didn’t peddle the products she sells too much and gives good skincare advice. I liked her and now I know what to expect if I go back.

I was called day before to move my appointment 30 minutes later, and I agreed. Once I arrived I’ve waiting for 40 minutes. Never seen the doctor. I’ve asked front desk how much longer should I expect to wait after I filled out everything and the answer was 15 minutes. After I waited those 15 minutes I checked with Front desk for updates, and I’ve been told Doctor should see me in about 15 minutes. I left without seeing doctor. Very upsetting experience.

Doctor arrived 30 minutes late. Office was locked. Made us wait 1.5 hours while she turned on the lights, did paper work. Appointment was for 3pm, she saw us after 5pm and then kept on rushing because she had more patients coming. She was calling patients while we were waiting to ask them if they could come in that day instead of next week.
Instead of looking at the issues on hand, the entire time she tried to sell her own line of skincare. No issue was addressed.

Was called 11 (!) times prior to my appointment, four of which were on the day of the appointment after I’d already confirmed twice to ask if I could come in earlier. Thought the insistence on calling was strange, as every other doctor I’ve seen has had a text/email system for checking in, but realized once I arrived that nothing was digital. Check in was a lengthy process; the forms I filled out had gone so long without being updated that the demographics section listed “white”, “black”, and “oriental” as the options for race. As for treatment itself, had an acne medication, full-body exam, blood work, vitamins and anti-aging soap pushed on me, none of which had anything to do with the concerns I was there to treat. All in all, I was at the office for an hour and forty five minutes (I’ve received treatment for the same issue before in ~30). I’d recommend this place if you have good insurance and want to experience a Twilight Zone time machine, otherwise, look elsewhere.

Easily the best dermatologist I’ve been to in the city. She listened to all of my concerns and gave me a plethora of information that no other doctor has ever bothered to share with me. She is clearly extremely knowledgeable and if you’re looking to actually learn more about your conditions, she is the doctor to see. Spent over an hour with me addressing every question I had during a standard yearly exam.
