Hi there, I'm Dr. Karen Fulwood. I'm a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner who possess a Doctorate in Nursing Practice. My approach to mental healthcare is to meet you where you are. I believe in collaborating with you in order to help you through mental health challenges that you may be facing. I will manage your medications and refer you to a therapist if needed. Teamwork is the dream work. My approach to mental healthcare is treating all my clients with respect and to be open-minded. My goal is to provide quality, evidence-based healthcare that will enable all clients to be free from mental health struggles and challenges. I work with all ages from ODD, conduct disorder, ADHD, mood disorders (depression and bipolar disorder), anxiety disorders (generalize anxiety disorder, PTSD, social anxiety, OCD, etc.), and thought disorders (schizophrenia). I'm most comfortable treating these conditions. I try and create a relaxing environment where clients are free to talk about anything without feeling like they are being judged. Even though, I do mostly medication management, I always ask about how they are doing personally. I notice some of the time, their symptoms stem from situational stressors. I always wanted to work in healthcare. At first, I was planning on becoming a medical doctor specializing in pediatrics. I didn't get into medical school, so I went the nursing route. I became a family nurse practitioner, but my first job was in psychiatry. I loved it so much that I decided to obtain my post master's degree in psychiatry. Afterwards, I considered myself a professional student. Therefore, I went and obtain my Doctorate in Nursing Practice degree with a specialization in psychiatry. I can't see myself doing anything different than helping others with their mental health care. Now, I'm not only seeing pediatrics, but I see all ages. How cool is that?
