Getting to know Dr. Kari Moskowitz

All of my work involves the child’s parents, either in the therapy room with the child and me or meeting with me separately in “Parent Guidance” sessions. I consider parents as “collaborators” whom I help guide toward a better understanding and a more satisfying relationship with their children. I work with young children (0-9 years), tweens (10-12), and teens (13+) who suffer from anxiety, attachment disorders, and regulatory issues such as inability to self-soothe and impulsivity. Additionally, I have years of experience working with parents and their adopted children. I hold a PhD in Clinical Psychology from George Mason University and completed my internship at Mt Vernon Community Mental Health.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Working with a child means that I work with the parents too. As a team, we can manage symptoms, and I can share skills being taught.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I use play therapy that is child-centered. I also teach children skills in a playful way, so they are more likely to remember and use them.
