Karin Celosse, LCP

Psychologist
CA
My name is Dr. Karin Celosse, and I am a licensed clinical psychologist with extensive experience in health psychology and neuropsychological evaluations. I have also spent well over a decade as a medic and field training officer in emergency medical services, affording me unique insights into the medical aspects of mental health. I hold a post-doctoral MS in clinical psychopharmacology (prescriptive track) and a Master's in Public Health from the University of Southern California. Additionally, I have extensive training in public health, community, and forensic mental health. Some of my research interests include the psychopathology of power, especially as it relates to prejudice and discrimination. This involves exploring whether features of the self (e.g., self-presentation, self-compassion, self-identity, gender identity), social context (e.g., socioeconomic disadvantage, poverty, psychosocial stress), and experiences of social interaction (e.g., expectancy confirmation, attribution, persuasion, social exclusion) protect, reinforce, disrupt, or undermine the basic behavioral and psychological mechanisms that support adaptive behavior. My approach is psychodynamic, attachment-based, trauma-focused, and incorporates motivational interviewing. When desired, I also utilize CBT and REBT interventions. I specialize in working with individuals who have experienced trauma, underserved populations, those struggling with chronic and severe mental illness, substance addiction and dependence, and individuals with complex medical needs. My communication style is psychodynamic, free-flowing, and non-directive, where insights are uncovered and explored collaboratively. What I most hope all my patients take away-even from their first meeting with me-is a sense of hope and unconditional acceptance and regard.
