What should a new client know about working with you?

I most enjoy working with patients in the outpatient setting, where we can get to know one another, build a rapport, and work together to achieve the patient’s mental health goals. As I get to know a new patient, I will ask about their medical and mental health history, as well as their lifestyle.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I often begin by considering lifestyle changes that can impact a patient’s mental health before turning to medications. When medications are needed, my prescribing philosophy is to “start low and go slow” to use the lowest dose and fewest number of medications that will meet my patient’s needs and personal goals. For patients already on medications, I tend not to make many changes unless the situation warrants, including side effects, interactions with other medications or medical conditions, or to meet their own goals.
