About Dr. Kay Johnston

Dr. Kay A. Johnston was born and raised in Iowa and is one of 14 children. She graduated from The University of NE at Omaha with a degree in Biology before obtaining her M.D. degree from The University of NE College of Medicine. She then served as a Flight Surgeon for the USAF for 2 years before completing her Dermatology Residency at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center. After residency, she was stationed at Langley AFB in Virginia as their Dermatologist. After fulfilling her military obligation, Dr. Johnston joined a multi-specialty group in San Angelo, TX prior to opening her own private practice (Bel-Ami Dermatology) in 1999. In addition to general and surgical dermatology, she performed Mohs Micrographic Surgery and offered various cosmetic procedures. While continuing with her private practice, she stayed active in her medical community and served as Chief of Staff at San Angelo Community Medical Center from 2011-2012. She remains Board Certified in Dermatology, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. Dr. Johnston moved to Florida in 2017 and worked in a dermatology office for 3 years prior to joining OnSpot Dermatology. She enjoys dancing and pickle ball and being close to her daughter in Tampa. She and her Dragonboat team are currently preparing to compete in the Club Crew World Championships in July 2022.
