About Kayla Merritt

Hi, Glad you are here! I have been a registered dietitian for 15 years. I earned my Bachelor's in Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Alabama. Over the years, I have worked in clinical nutrition, outpatient nutrition, dialysis clinics, and home infusion therapy. For the past 9 years, I have specialized in renal nutrition, working with patients who have chronic kidney disease and end-stage renal disease requiring dialysis. While I have enjoyed those years and grown a lot, my passion has always been health and wellness. I love helping people reach their health and wellness goals by working with them individually. In the wellness arena, I specialize in weight loss, mastering mindset, and mindful eating. I also work closely with patients referred by their medical doctors. I provide nutrition therapy for those with nutrition-related chronic conditions, treating these through nutrition diagnosis and intervention. Some of the conditions I address include pre-diabetes, diabetes, obesity, hypertension, lipid disorders, liver disease, chronic kidney disease, geriatric nutrition, PCOS, and infertility. I hadn’t considered working with a dietician before because I had met some rather judgey ones. Kayla never judges me by what I eat, and doesn’t make me feel bad for not being on a perfect diet. Her tactics are small and simple to create a better lifestyle, not just lose weight quick and starve yourself. I’ve never had a good relationship with food but I’m slowing turning over bad habits and Kayla is a huge part of that journey!
