About Dr. Keith Pennycook
Dr. Keith Pennycook was born and raised in Troy, Michigan. He graduated from Michigan State University Honors College with a degree in Human Biology with High Honor in 2015. Dr. Pennycook attended medical school at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine and graduated second in his class in 2019. He became interested in pursuing a career in dermatology during his clinical rotations at Michigan State. After graduating from medical school, Dr. Pennycook completed a Transitional Year Internship as the Chief Resident with Wayne State University at Ascension Providence Rochester Hospital in Rochester, Michigan.
Dr. Pennycook is a huge fan of the Michigan State Spartans, particularly the football and basketball teams. His favorite sport is college football but he is also a big fan of the Detroit Lions, Pistons, Tigers, and Red Wings. Dr. Pennycook’s favorite hobby is golfing and he enjoys many other outdoor activities as well such as jet skiing, boating, and taking his Golden Retriever for a walk. Family is very important to Dr. Pennycook and he is extremely happy to have the opportunity to continue working with his twin brother, Dr. Kevin Pennycook.

My son had a great visit with Dr Keith Pennycook regarding troublesome facial acne. This was his first appointment with this office and we were so impressed with how much Dr Pennycook and his staff truly cared about his issues and struggles with his skin. We now have a solid plan in place with new meds and other options like TheraClearX Acne Therapy System at his next appointment 3 months from now. It’s been challenging finding a Dermatologist who cares about young adults acne struggles and wasted so much time, over a decade, going in circles with other practices.

I understand the need to take in patients quickly but I had a poor experience with Dr. Pennycook. I have a history of recurring eczema resulting in painful bloody boils and itchy inflammatory acne from cortiosteriods. At my first visit I was prescribed doxycycline, while my acne was reduced I still had flare ups 3x a week. I previously tried antibiotics but when I use the cortiosteriod cream my acne comes back; I also have a family history of pancritis, Pennycook failed to address this when discussing antiobiotics. I suffered GI issues including vomiting and nausea which were brushed off. Also he avoided discussing any of the side effects of finasteride - I felt like there was a lack of consent. While the staff were friendly, they were avoidant to discuss some of the side effects and didn't take a holistic view of what caused my acne. I have seen success through the medications but Dr. Pennycook and the team rushed the process and didn't provide me the proper medical consent.

This is a really great and personable provider. He really wants to hear what the patient has to say. He is kind and sensitive and down-to-earth. He gave me options and clearly explained risks and benefits. This is my first ever visit to a dermatologist, will definitely continue to see him. Office staff is great too.
