Before entering psychiatry, Kierra spent many years in trauma, intensive, and critical care nursing. Those experiences gave her a firsthand view of the connection between emotional and physical well-being. After repeatedly caring for people during periods of serious illness and crisis, she became increasingly interested in helping people earlier in their journey by understanding what they are carrying and developing healthier ways to cope. Kierra's philosophy is to understand before she intervenes. Her collaborative, trauma-informed approach explores not only symptoms but also experiences, coping patterns, thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. She incorporates evidence-based strategies including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and psychoeducation to help clients better understand themselves and develop practical tools for everyday life. Kierra believes clients are the experts on their own lives. She brings warmth, honesty, curiosity, and clinical knowledge to the relationship while encouraging clients to have an active voice in their care.
