Dr. Kimberly Heath, DNP

Adult Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
CA
I’m Kimberly Heath, DNP, PMHNP-BC, a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner providing telehealth psychiatric care for adults in California. I’ve been a nurse for more than a decade, including six years as a U.S. Navy nurse caring for mothers and newborns. That experience shaped my approach to care: listen closely, understand the whole person, and look beyond the symptoms alone. I work with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, PTSD, ADHD, and postpartum mental health concerns, including through medication management. I take time to understand what brings you to care, what you’ve already tried, and what has or hasn’t helped. Together, we’ll discuss your options and build a treatment plan that fits your life and that you can realistically follow. If medication is part of your care, we’ll talk through its potential benefits, side effects, and what to watch for in clear, everyday language. I believe ongoing care should feel like a relationship, not a refill. You’ll see me at every visit, allowing us to build on what we’ve learned, recognize changes, and adjust your plan together as your needs evolve.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach starts with listening and understanding your whole picture. I want to know what you’re experiencing, what matters to you, and what you hope will change. You don’t need to have everything figured out before we meet. We’ll work together to explore your options and develop a plan that feels realistic for your life. If medication is appropriate, I’ll explain the potential benefits, side effects, and considerations so you can ask questions and make informed decisions. Your perspective matters, and you can always share concerns or tell me when something doesn’t feel right. I work with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, PTSD, ADHD, and postpartum mental health concerns. My goal is to make care collaborative, clear, and responsive to your needs, with a plan we can revisit and adjust together over time.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Your first visit is 60 minutes, giving us time to understand the whole picture without rushing. We’ll talk about what brings you to care, your mental health history, what you’ve already tried, and what has or hasn’t helped. From there, we’ll discuss your treatment options and work together on a plan that fits your needs and daily life. If medication management is appropriate, we’ll review potential benefits, side effects, and what to monitor, so you understand the reasoning behind your care. At follow-up visits, we’ll revisit how you’re feeling, discuss what has changed, and evaluate how well the plan is working. We can make adjustments together as needed. You’ll see me at every visit, so we can build on our previous conversations rather than start from scratch. Each visit should leave you with a clearer understanding of your care, the next steps, and why we’ve chosen them together.
