What should a new client know about working with you?

I have 16 years experience in mental health across inpatient units, outpatient clinics, and substance use rehab. That breadth means I've worked with people at very different points in their lives, and I don't come in with assumptions. My approach is straightforward: I take time to understand your specific situation before recommending anything. Treatment plans are individualized and built around your symptoms, history, and goals, not a template. You won't leave an appointment just with a prescription and no explanation. I'm direct and practical. If I think something isn't working, I'll say so. If I think a different approach makes more sense, we'll talk through it together. The goal is a care relationship where you feel like a participant, not just a patient.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Your first appointment (virtual or in person) with me is a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, typically about 50 minutes. I'll ask about your symptoms, history, any prior treatments, and what's going on in your life right now. I don't rush straight to a prescription. I want to understand the full picture before we talk about a treatment plan. Follow-up appointments are usually 20–25 minutes. We'll review how you're responding to any medications, talk through what's working and what isn't, and adjust as needed. Every visit includes a brief check-in on how you're doing more broadly and not just symptom tracking. I find that medication works best when it's paired with an honest conversation about what's actually happening in your life. I see adults dealing with depression, anxiety, PTSD, ADHD, and substance use. I practice under the supervision of Dr. Shehram Majid, MD, which means you benefit from collaborative oversight throughout your care.
