Getting to know Dr. Laura Klein

I am a Board-certified Psychiatrist (ABPN) and Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Colorado. I earned my Doctor of Medicine from the University of Colorado and completed my Residency in Psychiatry there as well. I have been practicing psychotherapy and psychopharmacology for 28 years. It is my belief that integrating psychotherapy with medication, if indicated, is the best approach to a successful outcome. I look forward to being of assistance to you.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe that the combination of therapy with or without medication by one professional is the best approach. I was in post-grad training when therapy was a highly valued skill for psychiatrists and continue to value utilizing that in my practice. In other words, I really do not like doing "medication only" treatment and prefer people looking for ongoing psychotherapy.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Although very individualized, a "typical" session includes psychotherapy (talking) for 45- 50 minutes each. Evaluation of need or appropriateness for medications is incorporated into that time.

    Doctor Klein said she could take me as a new patient. I guess somewhere between me telling her what meds I was taking and our scheduled appointment she changed her mind. She neglected to tell me though. Rather she kept making bizarre excuses as to why we couldn’t meet or what went wrong (never her fault.) I spent two weeks waiting on her to follow through with what she said she was going to do. Big waste of time. Seek a different provider and save yourself the mental anguish of this flakey Dr.
