Getting to know Dr. Lauren Dracoulis

Dr. Dracoulis is a licensed clinical psychologist who received her Master’s degree from Fordham University in 2017 and her doctoral degree from the University of Washington in Seattle in 2024. Her clinical work has focused on helping people who feel overwhelmed by distress and aren’t sure where to start—whether they are coping with trauma, substance use, or intense emotions that can feel difficult to manage.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Dr. Dracoulis believes that people often have more strengths, wisdom, and capacity for change than they realize. Sometimes, what is needed is a supportive space to uncover those strengths, make sense of what is happening, and figure out what to do next. She sees therapy as a partnership, where both client and therapist bring valuable knowledge, skills, and life experience to the work. Her goal is to meet each person where they are and work together to find an approach that fits their needs and goals.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Dr. Dracoulis takes a practical, skills-based approach to therapy and draws from a range of evidence-based psychotherapies. She has extensive experience with Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Functional Analytic Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Enhancement Therapy. While working at the Boston VA, she also received training in Cognitive Processing Therapy, Written Exposure Therapy, and Prolonged Exposure for trauma-related distress. Regardless of the specific approach, Dr. Dracoulis focuses on helping clients develop practical tools they can use in their everyday lives—to better manage difficult emotions, change patterns that may be getting in the way, navigate relationships, and move toward the life they want. She believes that even after profoundly painful experiences, people can heal and build resilience. Therapy can provide the support needed to create meaningful and lasting change, and to build a joyful and fulfilling life.
