Lauren is fantastic and has a great demeanor. She explains everything and is very thorough. The shop owner, however, can be a little pushy and they are VERY expensive compared to other shops. I'll likely not return, despite liking Lauren.
Dr. Stephens, was professional, friendly, quick, and answered all of my questions in a way that was easy to understand.
Extremely abrupt and brash. Not at all compassionate about personal ability to pay - upcharged me for an exam I did not need. Has a ridiculous fee in order to receive a new prescription but did not write a new prescription because I “love the one I already have”. Do NOT go here.
I think Dr Stephens is great. She takes her time and is thorough. Is good about explaining things, answering questions, and coming up with creative solutions.
I thought the doctor was pleasant and offered good tips on eye health in addition to the normal information about my exam. It felt a little rushed and I believe it was because they were running a bit behind. The wait was less than 15 minutes. I would go back for the annual exam but I do not think the prices are competitive for lenses/frames and will be purchasing those elsewhere.
Dr. Stephens is always friendly and makes me feel comfortable during my visit. I was impressed by her knowledge of all the different types of contact lenses. I plan to return next year and would recommend her to others.
Very friendly, answered all my questions and felt very taken care of!
It was one of the easiest and most educational eye doctor appointments I've had. I actually felt like I was being diagnosed correctly and she was extremely knowledgable.
I am very busy. My appointment was scheduled for 2pm and I was sitting in the chair at 2pm. Paperwork before the visit was only 3 minutes and I was ready to go.
Great! Very knowledgable and straight forward.
Dr.Stephens seemed rushed all the time, and although seemed to have the knowledge and skills, did not seem to have the empathy towards the patient. I asked her about the in-depth analysis ophthalmologists do, but she did not seem to pay attention, and kept going with her assessment. I didn't like her demeanor and attitude at all and would not recommend her at any rate. Really bad experience.
Dr. Stephens is very friendly and knowledgeable, and takes time to listen to your concerns and really get to know you. I would definitely recommend her to anyone who needs glasses or contacts!
She was fantastic--the best eye doctor I have been to. She was very professional but friendly and sincere. She was very thorough and explained everything in layman's terms. She took her time answering all my questions and made some good recommendations. I went in for dry eye and vision changes. Would highly recommend.
She was great, explained everything and was very thorough.
My visit with the doctor was great, but picking out glasses felt kind of weird and rushed. That said, I hadn't done any research on picking out glasses, so you may want to do this before your visit if this is your first time in a while.
Very knowledgeable, great recommendations for new contact lenses.
Dr. Stephens was very knowledgeable and personable. She explained everything I needed to know and was open to my questions. All around a very pleasant and helpful visit!
She is great!!!
Dr. Lauren is an incredible optometrist! She listens well, asks good questions, and the eye exams are very thorough. She is down to earth, and very easy to talk to. She caters very well to your specific interests and needs, and ensures that you're completely satisied with your product (contacts, glasses, etc.)
Wanted to charge extra for Pupillary Distance (PD) which you will need if you want to shop for glasses online.
This was the worst doctor's visit I've ever had. Not only did I have to wait more than 30 minutes as the receptionist struggled to process my insurance, but then I was charged for the wrong type of contact lenses. Thank goodness for that mistake, because I was refunded the money and decided to order my contacts elsewhere where the price was considerably less. I felt railroaded throughout the entire experience, and I felt Dr. Stephens had a very condescending bedside manner. My boyfriend came to this appointment with me and he was incensed by how they conducted their business. I will never, ever go back. It's not worth the stress.
Dr. Stephens was professional, accessible, and informative. Although I probably needed something of a reprimand for my eye care habits, she instead educated me about proper eye health. I appreciated the personal, quality care that I received and highly recommend Dr. Stephens.
I was seen less than 10 minutes after arriving. My entire appointment took 30 minutes without being rushed. She was very efficient and the front desk staff was very nice and helpful. Would definitely recommend!
Dr. Stephens is very knowledgeable, warm, kind and easy to talk to. I highly recommend her!
Dr Stephens was extremely thorough and professional. She guided me through every step of the process. I couldn't recommend her any more highly.
She was very rude, condescending, and annoyed with any questions. The appointment felt very rushed.
I arrived to my appointment 10 minutes early and Dr. Stephens finally showed up to the office 10 minutes after my appointment time. 20 minutes, wasn't really THAT long to wait, but as soon as she arrived, she hastily threw her coat and purse down and grabbed my paperwork and notioned that I go back into the office. It felt like she was definitely rushing through the appointment. Then, she lectured me for at least 10 minutes on how to remove, clean and insert my contacts properly in my eyeballs (I have been wearing contacts for 15 years). The invoice at the end of the visit was far more than I anticipated, but even though I asked several times what to expect, they didn't give me a straight answer until it was time to swipe my card.
Dr. Stephens was great! Quick and painless eye exam. Will definitely be back again.
Excellent eye doctor - I'm very picky about my healthcare professionals and Dr. Stephens was top-notch. Extremely friendly, willing to answer questions and very helpful. Her staff was kind and helped me get a good deal on my contacts. I will definitely return!
Dr. Stephens made sure I had plenty of informative advice about eye health and contact lens cleaning. She was also very gentle.
Very nice doctor who is clearly knowledgeable and doesn't mind explaining what's she's doing, why she's doing it. I really appreciated that she explained what she was measuring in when she would do the "which one is more clear 1 or 2" thing. I wish she would have offered to give me my glasses and contact lens prescription so I could order on my own in the future but maybe I will have to call back and ask for it.
Very thorough, explained things clearly, was easy to talk with and answered all my questions. Overall it was a good experience.
Efficient and Friendly, couldn't ask for more!
Dr. Stephens is always polite and professional. This was my third appointment and I have only kind words. The practice and shop are military friendly!
Relatively short wait, good bedside manner, answered all my questions and gave lots of helpful explanation. Good for contact lens fitting as well as standard check-up.
Dr Stephens is great. Very thorough and explained everything. I was having such dry eye that it gave me a twitch. Probably due to all my antihistamines. She made some suggestions that work great and I haven't had any issues since.
She was really sweet and cared about my overall vision. Will go back again!
Dr. Stephens was knowledgable and took her time explaining each step of exam as she went.
She answers ALL of my questions and is so nice to talk to. You never feel like she's rushing you, and she always discusses her course of action and makes sure you're on board. I've sent friends and family to her and will continue to do so! Plus the Optical shop is amaze! So much better than a Lenscrafters, Sam is a true crafter and will help you pick the perfect pair AND tells a good joke...
So kind & helpful!
Dr. Stevens is great! Professional, prompt and respectful of your time. She can be a bit overbearing (as doctors often are), but clearly has the patient's best interests at heart. Highly recommended!
Very thorough and great optometrist! Always able to get an appointment and have been pleased with the several times I've gone.
Very personable and really took the time to talk through the process and her findings. Highly recommended!
Wonderful doctor! She took the time to explain everything to me, even topics I never thought to get additional clarification. Will definitely keep coming back.
Dr. Stephens was quick, clear and described the physiology behind every test.
She's friendly, efficient, thorough, and willing to answer questions and explain things.
Great experience! Thorough but efficient. She explained everything in a way that was easy to understand.
She was welcoming, explained things clearly, didn't try to sell me things, just gave me the facts (with a smile).
She was able to access my eye irritation and give me solid medical advice. Very good bedside manner!!!!
I'm torn. Dr. Stephens is very knowledgeable, and I appreciated that she explained most steps of the eye exam in detail. She also recommended a contact brand with a higher moisture content, which ended up working out very well for me. However, her bedside manner left much to be desired. I found her to be curt and patronizing throughout the procedure. For most of the exam, her tone was a mixture between annoyance and condescension. For the sheer unpleasantness of the visit, I will not be returning.
The visit was great, and Lauren was outstanding. So was the help in the front of the office. These folks very rightly cautioned me against using my prescription (which is actually awful) with a service like Warby Parker and instead justified that it would be cheaper and easier for me to order glasses in their office from them.
Very nice, professional, and knowledgeable. Although it wasn't intimidating like the dentist, it was still really nice that she explained everything she was doing and what she was looking for while she looked at my eyes.
Dr. Stephens was fantastic. She not only gave me an eye exam but explained a lot about daily eye maintenance.
Rude and pushy.
Dr. Stephens was great. Mr. Khalil was a mess. Dr. Stephens was very professional, very knowledgeable, extremely helpful and informative. She took her work seriously. Mr. Khalil, however.... He was pushy about selling me lenses right away, he didn't give me my insurance card until I asked him for it, and I only found out later that I wasn't even given my prescription. I know now that's not in compliance with the FTC's "Contact Lens Rule" (16 CFR Part 315). When I called a few days later to ask about the script (I didn't mention the law, any good doctor should know it anyway, and threats don't help), I got a return voicemail from Mr. Khalil--not about why I wasn't given a script but trying to sell me again! I had already paid for the exam, so I was entitled to the prescription by law, and the sales tactics were frustrating. The exam was also over 50 per cent more than the most I had ever paid in the past, and since insurance never covers these exams unless contacts are "medically necessary" anyway, it's not an insurance difference but a provider difference (may also vary by city/market). I took extra time to return the following week in-person to pick up the prescription, and Mr. Khalil was in no hurry when I got there. I think that Dr. Stephens is deserving of a better partner. I doubt that I will return here :(
Very thorough and explained a lot of things about my eyes that no other optometrist has before! She recommended new contact lenses from the ones that I've been wearing for over a decade, and they have made a difference in my eye sight and headaches I had in the past.
*This review is for the business, not the doctor. I filled out the forms beforehand but they didn't let me know until I got there that they are out of network for my insurance. They tried to convince me to stay and pay out-of-network, saying they would discount the service to make it cheaper. After spending 40 minutes on the phone with my insurance provider I learned that in fact it would still be significantly more expensive even with their discount so I left. It was a frustrating experience that could have all been avoided if they accepted that as someone who is out of network it was a waste of everyone's time to try to convince me to stay.
I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Stephens - she is very friendly and knowledgeable and takes her time to get to know your eye health. There was literally no wait time from when I finished filling out the paperwork to when Dr. Stephens began the eye exam. The office staff were cordial and did not try to pressure me into purchasing expensive frames or contacts. I am very pleased with this office and will be returning in the future.
Dr. Stephens is so, so helpful when it comes to explaining things and answering my questions. I would not go to anyone else!
Great visit. She was thorough and explained every well.
She was so knowledgeable and thorough with any issues I was having with my eyes; even if they were very small issues. I'll definitely be going back to her.
The office was nice and bright and Dr. Stephens staff were very courteous. Her location is convenient and I would recommend to anyone who works in the city.
Dr. Stephens was warm, friendly, helpful, and caring. Very professional, and competent.
The wait was kinda long.
As joyful as going to the eye doctor can be! Very friendly, helpful, and explains everything as she goes along. Learned a lot about why eye doctors do all those different things they do.
Great experience overall, primarily because Dr. Stephens is phenomenal. Her front office staff were only average, and I waited ten minutes before my appt. Definitely returning!
She is just fantastic!
So friendly and knowledgeable. Best optometrist I've ever had! I understand my eye health better now and feel secure caring for my eyes throughout my life with Dr. Stephens' expert help.
She took the time to explain things and give advice in a way that was very informative and not pushy at all, and this was just for a basic eye exam! Honestly a great experience. The guy selling the glasses obviously wanted to make a sale, but I didn't find him to be any more pushy than other eyeglass shops (I had read other reviews that noted this concern).
I was happy with my visit with Dr. Stephens - appointment was quick and she answered my questions thoroughly.
Good, quick, painless visit. Would recommend.
Loved the doctor, hated the storefront and shop attached. I felt pressured to using the attached store to update my prescription and they were way overpriced and pushy once the doctor handed me over.
I truly like my annual visits with Dr. Stephens. She is timely, professional, and takes the extra steps to ensure that all your questions are answered. She is calm, make suggests and not demands, and allows you to make the final decisions. I stumbled into her office since I worked nearby. This is now my fourth year as a satisfied patient. ~ S. Gottlieb
Laura K. Stephens was okay. The gentleman at the front who assists patients with frames was very pushy, rude on the phone when I questioned my bill. This shouldn't reflect on Dr. Stephens but it does bring down the quality of the entire experience significantly. The gentleman at the front got aggravated that I found the same pair of frames online for much cheaper after my visit - "But your insurance covers most of it." Well, not a lot of it. It would have if I gone online and did it myself. Sure, these businesses need to make a profit. Shame on me for not doing my research first. Shame on him for not providing good customer service. And I'm sure Dr. Stephens hears how he treats these customers as he was particularly loud with me on the phone. I will not be back. They lost my business.
Overall, pretty judgmental. Did not make me feel comfortable. Shamed me for not following perfect contact lens care and for ordering contacts online. Pushed for her office's products. Will not be returning.
Dr. Stephens and her team were awesome, efficient and so accommodating!
She's awesome and walks you through all the things she's checking and why. Gave me great advice on if I should update my glasses and fits me for perfect contacts!
Friendly, professional, well informed... Best eye appointment I have ever had. I definitely recommend Lauren for quality eye care at it's best!
Dr. Stephens was super kind and thorough. I'll be back!
Had a great experience with Dr. Stephens. She is very knowledgeable and helpful, and has a great bedside manner. Will definitely return!
Dr. Stephens was very professional. I highly recommend her.
I qualify my wait time rating with the fact that I was the first appointment of the day so there was no backlog, but I was still seen right on schedule. Highly recommend.
No wait time; She took the time to get my eye glass and contact prescription correct. I would recommend going here.
Dr. Stephens is a pleasant, competent eye doctor; however, her colleague at the eyeglasses store where she works was very overbearing, trying his darnedest to get me to buy a very expensive pair of glasses. He tried to withhold my prescription, telling me I could come back later and he'd keep it on file! Shady.
I might have just had an uncharacteristically bad experience, but I would not choose to continue my eye exams here for a couple of reasons. First, the guy running the place is pushy, rude, and hovers. He comes across more snake-oil salesman than professional (as I believe another review may have said). No thanks. Second, I found Ms. Stephens to be equally unpleasant/condescending. I remember saying that my sight was still blurry in one eye when testing different contacts, and she just seemed annoyed, which was odd, because getting it right is why I was there in the first place. When I was checking out I was heavily (annoyingly) encouraged to purchase from them, and I had to ask for my prescription info on paper. The guy did hand it over to me AFTER I asked but I could tell he was miffed. I think I did my first contact purchase through them, but have since been using 1-800-Contacts. When it's time for my next exam I will be going elsewhere.
I had a great experience visiting Dr. Stephens today. I was seen almost immediately, and she took a great deal of time to answer all of my questions. I look forward to going back to see her again, and I highly recommend her to anyone looking for an eye doctor in the DC area.
It was great! she was very helpful, answered all my questions, and promised to follow up on any missing information. I look forward to going back to pick up my new contacts and glasses next week when they are ready.
Dr. Stephens was fantastic! I haven't been to the eye doctor in ages and she did a thorough exam quickly, and was really nice about how much of a baby I am about eye drops.
Dr. Stephens was professional and helpful, she clearly explained what she was doing throughout the appointment and why. It was a great initial visit and I plan to go back again.
Dr. Stephens was super nice and incredibly informative! I've learned more than I ever have about eye health. :)
Great service, very nice team and I felt well taken care of. Contact fitting was as pleasant as it could be and eye exam was quick but thorough. Very good experience!
Dr. Lauren saw me right away when I walked in. She was very kind, efficient and thorough. I was given a prescription for glasses and was able to pick them out right after my exam since her office is also an optical store. I was told my glasses would be ready for pick-up within 24 hours.
Dr. Stephens was very friendly and easy to talk to. She explained everything very clearly and I would definitely recommend her in the future.
I really like Dr. Stephens and have been coming to her for three+ years. At my appointment today she did not remember me, though. I don't mind at all but it could save me time for her to look up my prior records for the sake of a smooth appointment (not having to re-explain my history) since I'm already in their system and on Zoc Doc. Separately, the man who handles her sales and glasses sales is a nice man but way too pushy. He tried to get me to put down a deposit for glasses that I would prefer to order next month instead of this month (so that I can spread out the cost) when a deposit is not necessary (which I figured out after several probing questions). He kept making comments that made me feel cheap when really I am a young adult paying all of my own expenses and loans and as a loyal customer of three+ years I don't think I should be made to feel bad for not wanting to make a big purchase (visit + contact lenses + glasses) all at once. Really I am being a responsible adult and I would appreciate an itemized receipt with what I paid for the visit as well as the contact lenses, minus any health insurance coverage, so that I understand my final cost for the day. It seems like he just pulls the final amount that I owe out of thin air. Dr. Stephens is great but the customer service on the sales side is a little offensive.
Dr. Stephens is very good in explaining any issues that arise during the visit. She takes questions seriously and always provides an adequate answer. Highly recommended.
Super helpful. Offered great tips in taking care of my contacts. Easy going and professional.
Very thorough, attentive, and generally gets you in and out pretty quick. Best eye doctor yet.
Dr Stephens services were great. I look forward to continuing my eye care with her.
Dr. Stephens was great! She was to the point, let me know all of my options and made it a priority to help me get the perfect glasses/contacts set up! I would absolutely recommend her to anyone looking for a new optometrist.
Terrible "bedside" manner. I'm not sure if I came in on a bad day for this OD, but she was very rude and condescending. When I mentioned that I forget to take my contacts out before bed time 2-3x a month, she responded with, "Do you even read the labels on your contact lenses?". Like many other customers, the man at the desk was deceptive about ordering contacts through them. He promised that he was selling them for much less than online stores and that I "should be supporting small businesses" like theirs. So I ordered through them, and then found the contacts for considerably less on 1-800-Contacts. I will not be returning to this office and I would warn others of visiting. My experience was characterized as deceptive, rude, and condescending.
Dr. Stephens is a fantastic optometrist! She asked thorough questions and helped me learn about aspects of eye care that I didn't know about even though I've worn contacts for 12 years. It was easy to make an appointment at her office and her staff called to confirm both after making the appointment on ZocDoc and the day of, which made me feel secure knowing that they were ready to see me. The location is super convenient if you work downtown.
I will definitely go back to Dr. Stephens. She explained everything to me in a helpful, friendly way that no OD has ever taken the time to do before. I cannot recommend her highly enough.
This rating is for the entire practice and use of ZocDoc to book my appointment. The practitioner is personable and competent, and I would see her again if she were at a better practice. First, the practice did not have the paperwork I completed on ZocDoc, so I had to do it again. The practice blamed ZocDoc for this inconvenience. The reason I will not be coming back is the optician who helps with eyeglasses and payment. He was rude, pushy, and generally misinformed about insurance. He argued with me over the copayment repeating the amount. The nice assistant who checked me in showed him he was mistaken- no apology given. He begrudgingly provided me with my Rx and my pupillary distance and I took my business elsewhere.
Lauren was very friendly and personable. Examined my eyes and then explained fully what she had done and what she found. I would definitely recommend her to others.
She's a fine optometrist if not the most friendly person I have ever met
I didn't like this appointment. This is the second time that I have seen this doctor. She was nice for the first appointment, but today she seemed a bit rude. Maybe she had a bad day, but I didn't like that I felt pressured to buy either. Probably won't be returning.
My appointment with Dr. Stephens was my third eye exam in the last six months. (The other two doctors did not prescribe contact lenses and were seen for different reasons.) Not only did Dr. Stephens come up with a wildly different prescription from the other two doctors (whose prescriptions matched), she sent me away with sample contact lenses and told me to call back the following week with an update. After paying out of pocket (despite advertisements that the practice took my insurance), I left the office with no prescription in hand for contacts or glasses. When I called Dr. Stephens back the following week and told her the contacts were not working (uncomfortable, and surprise! not the correct prescription), her response was just "OK." After a long pause, she asked me what I wanted to do about it. I said I didn't know since she was the doctor. She said I needed to come back in for ANOTHER appointment. When I asked her if I would have to pay for another appointment, her nonchalant response was "well let me know what you want to do." What do I want to do? First and foremost, share my experience, so other patients will know not to go to Dr. Stephens. I won't be back. EVER!
Dr. Stephens was excellent; she explained things to be patiently and asked thoughtful questions. She told me things no optometrist has before about proper contact lens care. I will definitely see her again!
Dr. Stephens was excellent. I appreciated the time she spent explaining various things and I felt very confident in her hands. The front desk staff were not entirely clear on what to charge under my insurance which I know is complicated but it did not inspire confidence.
She was very informative. She was great! She didn't rush the appointment. I learnt some new things. She showed pic of everything going on with my eyes. She was the best. I will be going back to her for years to come.
Dr. Stephens was very helpful, and I had a lot of confidence in her knowledge and examination skills. The gentleman who was selling the actual glasses seemed kind of shady though. He just wrote some numbers down on a sheet of paper with no explanation, then told me that's how much it was. Overall, it was an excellent experience though.
I have filed a complaint with my insurance company because of their shady and dishonest billing practices.
My first time here. The waiting time was really quick, the vibe was good and I learnt more about my eyes in this single appointment than in my many eye health appointments prior. Lauren has a great bedside manner, clearly loves her job and is excellent at translating complex content to a lay audience. A really informative and fun (yes, fun!) eye exam in the midst of a busy and stressful day!
Dr. Stephens was unfriendly and patronizing after being 30 minutes late. The man who worked the front desk also charged me significantly more for contacts than the prices I found online and didn't provide an invoice. This after Dr. Stephens assured me that the contacts I'm ordering have 'universal pricing' so the price will be the same anywhere. Will not be returning.
She was very thorough, far more so than eye doctors I've seen at big eyeglass stores like LensCrafters. She listened to my concerns and asked lots of questions. I only felt a bit awkward getting a copy of my prescription, which everyone in the office seemed hesitant to give due to the popularity of online glasses retailers. In the end I felt obligated to purchase glasses at the store she's based out of and ended up with frames I don't much like, but at least the prescription is spot on!
Love this team!!
Very thorough and complete. Explained the procedures and tests well as well as the results. Answered my questions clearly. I was very pleased with Dr Stephens and the visit.
Dr. Stephens was wonderful. Extremely personable, warm, welcoming, and knowledgeable. She thoroughly explained all aspects of the examine and ask through questions to determine the best contacts that fit with my daily habits and eye issues (dry eyes, constantly in front of computer, etc). The other staff...not as impressive...I didn't get a copy of my prescription and wasn't asked if I'd be ordering my contacts through their office; the guy just placed the order and rang it all up. I didn't even get a quote. Dr. Stephens, two thumbs up. Support staff...no so much.
It was clear they are a small office needing, and in fact encouraging their patients to buy any products (contacts, lenses) through their practice. Although Dr. Stephens was nice, she certainly had an ulterior motive by not handing over my prescriptions when I asked for them, which was uncomfortable. The receptionist, a sweet older man, checked me out including a year supply of contacts in my total which I did not ask for. Unfortunately I will not return to this office.
Very friendly and professional!
Incredibly professional, thorough, and friendly. I've been seeing eye doctors for nearly 35 years and this was the best visit I've ever had. Definitely coming back.
Very good experience overall; highly recommended.
Dr. Stephens was extremely thorough and helpful.
patieny could talk to the Dr as friend.
Dr. Stephens was thorough and patient. There was a change in my prescription from last time, and she took the time to explain to me what was going on and how it could be addressed. I never felt like she was rushed. She was friendly and professional. I will definitely go to her again and would recommend her to others.
She was very professional, thorough and wonderful.
Dr. Stephens was incredible. She was kind, very thorough and did not rush through the appointment. She listened to what I had to say, did not judge at all, even when I confessed to not having been to an eye doc in too many years, and gave very realistic timeframes in terms of follow-up appointments. If you're looking for a doc, I highly recommend Dr. Stephens.
Dr. Stephens is friendly and gets right into the exam. No wasted time with a friendly attitude. Love her!
I truly felt like a valued customer! She listened to me discuss my personal eye health and habits and gave great feedback and suggestions. After a very thorough and informative eye exam, she recommended contacts that were perfect for my personal needs and fitness routine! She also informed me about UV rays and protecting my eyes while outdoors. She also asked about my personal habits such as computer usage and how this impacts my vision. The shop owner was able to recommend glasses that I love and fit them perfectly to my face quickly. Overall, the staff members were friendly and I love that this wasn't some chain store; it felt more personal and I was well-attended! They are also located in a very central DC location! This will be the ONLY place I go to in DC for my vision needs :-)
She was very nice, super helpful, and gave me tips that I didn't know about before.
The doctor is great BUT the guy who runs the shop tries to take every nickel from you - making it a really uncomfortable experience. Can't recommend when it's such a shady business in spite of dr Stevens who was quite good.
Dr. Stephens was very thorough and easy to talk to. My experience with her and the office was great over all.
She was excellent. Super nice and friendly. Was very open to my questions and explained everything very well. Gave it to me straight about my chances for being a good candidate for Lasiks. I am definitely going back.
I have seen her twice, and both times I was seen very quickly. I like to ask a lot of questions about my care to understand the science behind the recommendations, and Dr. Stephens was happy to walk me through any of the questions I had. She also asked leading questions based on observations that anticipated some issues I was having (but hadn't relayed), which is exactly what I expect from a good physician.
She was very professional and personable. She diagnosed my issue, explained and wrote down instructions for me to follow.
Great experience - clear, to the point and very nice. All in all, I have found my new eye doctor.
For just a check-up this was great! She was very friendly and I could tell she really cares about her patients and improving their eye health. But, if you're looking for a place with more advanced technology you might want to look elsewhere.
Dr. Stephens explained things to me in a way no optometrist had done before and also examined parts of my eyes that hadn't been examined before. She was thorough, explanatory and friendly. I liked her very much.
I appreciate the quality of care from Dr Stephens and she was very detail oriented, but my office visit was not the best experience. I had inputted my information to check in over a day before on ZocDoc and there was no comment from the office that my insurance provider information may be inaccurate. Only after my visit, they informed me of this and I very politely asked if I can go to my work, check online, and give them the correct insurance information. They insisted that I pay out of pock (quoted at a significant amount) before leaving and even said "well we've already tried everything so what do you want us to do." I called back within 15 minutes with the correct insurance provider and saved hundreds from not being charged out of pocket. When I inquired about the details (e.g., contact lens price vs. visit price), the man implied that "its cheap enough, isn't it" and I had to ask three times to get the itemized information. Overall, I would recommend Dr. Stephens for her medical expertise, but would have appreciated a higher degree of professionalism and flexibility for new patients from the staff.
I had a great experience with Dr. Stephens! She's very personable, and she took the time to answer all my questions. I would recommend her were she located in a different office. Everything else about my visit was odd. It's a strange little office that looks more like a used jewelry store than a doctors' office. They were very busy when I arrived, and since there are only two chairs in the waiting area, there was nowhere to sit and fill out paperwork. The surly man at the front desk was not a good communicator - I asked him several questions about the bill, getting a copy of my prescription, etc., none of which he directly answered. He also told me that he was unable to give me an actual bill or printed summary of my visit, nor could I get a copy of my prescription, until I came back to pick up my contacts. The only thing I left with was a standard credit card machine receipt.
Dr. Stephens was very professional and knowledgable. She had a great rapport with me as a patient, explaining everything very carefully. I did not get a sense of her being patronizing at all (as other reviewers mentioned). However, the salesman in the store was a bit pushy (again, as other reviewers have mentioned). Just don't be afraid to push back!
Very professional and kind. Very little waiting time. I would recommend and visit her again!
The appointment went great and Lauren answered all of my questions and gave me good advice. However her and the shop owner were pushy about getting the anti glare option which is pretty expensive and not as necessary as they made it out to be.
Dr. Stephens was not that bad considering the office is terrible. The exam room looks like an old storage room and part of the exam is done in the lobby in front of other patients. My main problem is with the used car salesman working the front counter. He basically made up information about my insurance and then seemed annoyed when I called back to see why my insurance was never processed. I am going to be getting a second opinion and I suggest avoiding this place all together.
The doctor was very nice, however at the end of the appointment the person who you deal with before you leave was pushy, and made me feel pretty uncomfortable.
I was the first appt of the day, so I'm sure that helped with getting seen in less than 5 minutes after I arrived. Dr. Stephens was great...very focused & kept the exam moving along. The frames that they gave me to choose from were all great for my face shape and coloring. I was in and out in under an hour and I felt I got great specialized attention.
not a thorough explanation, wanted me to book the next appointment before answering any questions. seemed annoyed during the whole check up.
I found her to be very patronizing, though I don't think she realizes how she comes across.
I was initially wary after reading some of the reviews here, but the doctor could not have been nicer! The glasses saleman was a tiny bit pushy, but dropped it after I told him flat out I was not looking to get new glasses today, I don't know why that was so hard for other reviewers to tell him. If I'm still in the area when I need to get a new rx, I would go see this doctor again without a thought.
Dr. Stephens took the time to explain what she was doing and what different results meant for me. She checked to make sure I understood what she was talking about and gave me more information when I needed it. Overall it was a great experience.
I wish I had known when I scheduled my appointment that I chose a timeslot for which eye dilation is not available. But Dr. Stephens explained that I could schedule an appointment earlier another day, within a month, and be covered by the same copay as my first visit. This has no bearing on the service I received from Dr. Stephens, but I did not like feeling pressured to try on glasses immediately after getting the test and new prescription. I didn't like the brands available, but felt obligated by Mr. Khalil, the salesperson, to stay and try several pairs on. When I was able to convince him I just wanted to pay for my exam, he relented, but then said that the doctor had left before signing my prescription, so I now have to go back and pick it up. That part of the visit just didn't feel right to me, but, as I said before, it has no bearing on the medical services provided.
I've never been treated so rudely by a medical professional.
Dr. Stephens was very thorough, caring, and gave me good medical advice. I had never thought of taking fish oil supplements to help with my eye sight--excellent idea Dr. Stephens.
Excellent eye doctor. She answered all of my questions and was extremely knowledgeable.
Very professional and explained everything sufficiently.
Lauren was very professional and friendly. The guy who tried the hard sale on the frames was not. It makes me want to take my prescription elsewhere.
My visit with Dr. Stephens was about average. Dr. Stephens is compete and did a good job of looking at my eyes and helping me to understand the results of the eye exam. I did feel at times she chastised me for various things, and even cut me off mid sentence once. Following the examination, my experience with negative. The gentleman fitting me for glasses came off more as a used car saleman and really pressured me to make a decision right then and there and buy glasses and contacts. He seemed perturbed when I told him I wanted to think about it for a day or two. He didn't even give me a receipt for the office visit. Very unpleasant experience.
My only issue with Dr. Stephens was the wait time, but she came out to apologize to me right before she took someone in for a 5-10 minute consultation when it was my time to be seen. She apologized again when she game to get me. I appreciated both her giving me the heads up that I wouldn't be seen on time and her genuine apology for the wait. She was extremely thorough in her exam, answered all my questions, and explained everything she was about to do. Excellent bedside manner and attitude. I'm extremely likely to visit her annually.
Very quick, but thorough evaluation! Very nice man at the front desk as well.
Dr. Stephens is kind of rude. I thought maybe she was having a bad day, but when I went back to pick up my glasses, I heard her say the same thing to another patient, so maybe it's just her! While I do think being on your phone while talking to someone else is not very polite, I don't think it's appropriate for someone to say "I'll wait till you're done," with a closed eye eye-roll. All I'd done was look down to check why it was buzzing, I wasn't even texting. She was very short the entire time, and even when I tried to joke, she just wasn't having it. She made me feel like an idiot for not seeing an optometrist more frequently, and just overall wasn't very friendly. The rest of the staff is great, and I liked the selection of frames.
Doc is good, but they have some shady billing practices. Definitely need someone else at the register.
Extremely personable! I felt very comfortable with her and she had me out of the office and back to work in no time.
Very aggressive, tried to get me to overpay for contact, wouldn't give straightforward answers and was rushed and unhelpful.
Very professional and quick! She was very helpful in addressing eye allergies.
Due to the admin staff being unprepared for the visit, I would not return. When I addressed the issues, the Dr. had a melt down due to her having a bad day.
She is great! The inventory is on the pricier side, but Dr. Stephens is the best!
Dr. Stephens was very thorough and took the time to explain her recommendations for my eye care. I highly recommend her.
Overall, fine visit. I waited fifteen minutes. The receptionist was very nice. Dr. Stephens is friendly and polite and made me feel comfortable. I also liked that she explained things about my eyes, I learned a lot I hadn't known before, especially about the affect of contacts.
Great experience, very helpful!
Dr. Lauren Stephens was very personable and very professional.. She explained what she was about to do regarding the test and answered all of my question very professionally. I would recommend Dr. Stephens highly. She has a patient for life!!!!
Doctor Stephen saw me quickly, and despite the early morning appointment was friendly and receptive to my questions.
It couldn't have gone better. I was very pleased.
I wasn't sure if this was a doctor's office or a used cars lot. A lot of pressure to buy buy buy - contacts, glasses, more appointments - and not much information. I was even charged $10 for my sample contacts to be shipped! Keep in mind this is a total of 10 daily contacts that weigh little more than a standard envelope. I wouldn't be surprised if they actually get the contact samples for free and are just scamming their patients.
She was professional and easy to work with. I would highly recommend her.
Quick and Professional! The entire staff was honestly really great. I've been to a ton of docs and they just don't compare to Doc Stephens. Make an appt. stat
I was happy with my initial visit. The doctor was thorough and her staff were really helpful in answering my insurance related questions. The doctor was also kind enough to stay late in order to do additional eye tests for me that were not originally scheduled.
The doctor was very nice and took her time to make sure everything was a-okay. She was happy to answer questions I had as well as ask questions to make sure she fully understood my vision history (this was my first appt with Dr. Stephens).
Great service, quick, efficient, and addressed all my concerns, and more importantly--fixed my problem.
The man (who I'm guessing is the owner from the other reviews) was incredibly aggressive and down right rude. After telling me that there's no way they my insurance covered what I thought it did he then proceeded to raise his voice and ask me over and over how I expected him to make money. (The much more civil women who also worked the front of the businesss confirmed with my insurance company that what I expected to be charged was, in fact, correct.) The doctor was rather condescending as well, and I left my initial visit unaware that she had changed my prescription in only one eye.
Would never go back! The man in the front is very pushy and not good to work with. She was fine, but she pretty much told me that an issue i'd been previously diagnosed with was being handled terribly. Even after I told her that I was handling it my preferred method she indicated that it was incorrect. Right. Okay. Maybe she was looking out for me, but her manner and tone were abrasive and I didn't really appreciate her approach.
Great provider and she was very personable. Appointment was really quick as well.
I thought Dr Stephens was nice and thorough. However I felt pressured after the appointment to buy glasses and contacts right away from their office without being able to shop around.
Dr. Stephens is great. The owner of Optical Gallery, however, is a bit pushy and tries to sell you things that you either don't want or need.
She was knowledgeable and nice to see
I was very impressed with Lauren. She is very professional, thorough, and personable. I will highly recommend to anyone.
She's a great eye doctor, full of helpful advice.
Professional. Not long wait.
Visit was great with the Dr., the owner of the store as a little pushy though..
