Getting to know Leasa Dering

I'm Leasa Dering, a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner dedicated to helping people navigate life's mental health challenges with compassion, insight, and genuine partnership. With 30 years of nursing experience—including critical care at Loma Linda University Medical Center—I've spent my career caring for people at their most vulnerable, and I've seen how deeply conditions like anxiety, depression, and trauma affect both emotional and physical well-being. That experience taught me that healing begins with truly listening. Every person's story is unique, and effective care is never one-size-fits-all. I take a whole-person approach, looking beyond a diagnosis to understand the sleep, nutrition, stress, relationships, and lifestyle factors shaping how you feel. From there, we build a treatment plan together—one you help direct and feel comfortable with. I provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and medication management for adults across the lifespan, treating anxiety, depression, PTSD and trauma, ADHD, mood disorders, and sleep difficulties. I hold a special place in my heart for those living with PTSD. My care combines evidence-based medication management with education, lifestyle guidance, and supportive, person-centered strategies, so treatment addresses the whole you—not just your symptoms. Most of us would benefit from mental health support at some point, and there is no shame in seeking it. Whether you're reaching out for the first time or haven't felt truly heard before, my goal is for you to leave each visit feeling understood, respected, and cared for—with a clear plan and direction for your healing. I offer virtual visits on a secure telehealth platform with flexible hours, accessible anywhere in California. Reach out today to take the first step.

What should a new client know about working with you?

You should know that you'll be heard. I lead with compassion and genuine listening, and I treat the whole person—not just a diagnosis. I take time to understand the sleep, stress, relationships, and lifestyle factors shaping how you feel, and I build your treatment plan with you, not just for you. You keep your autonomy in your care, and my goal is for you to leave every visit feeling understood and supported, with a clear direction forward. There's no shame in seeking help—wherever you are in your journey, you're welcome here.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first visit is a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation in a warm, unhurried space where you can share what's been going on. I'll ask questions to understand the full picture—your symptoms, health, history, and daily life—so we can identify what's really driving how you feel. Together we'll create a treatment plan you feel comfortable with, which may include medication management alongside lifestyle guidance around sleep, nutrition, and stress. At follow-up visits, we'll review your progress, adjust as needed, and keep refining your care so it continues to move you toward your goals.

My visit exceeded my expectations. I felt that the adequate amount of time and attention was provided. The visit did not feel rushed, and it was tailored to address my concerns. Overall, I was happy with my care and look forward to continuing with treatment here.
I usually don’t write reviews, but I feel I should write one about my provider. Leasa helped me through quite a few rough spots. She was very patient and always had great insights. I was able to view certain situations in various perspectives, that in itself helped me see a much bigger picture, than the smaller picture that I painted on my own. I am very thankful to have someone like her in my corner. I highly recommend Leasa !! She is an outstanding person with amazing perceptions and intuitions.
I have had a great experience working with Leasa. She was compassionate, attentive, and made me feel comfortable from the very first appointment. She took the time to listen to my concerns, explained my treatment options clearly, and worked with me to develop a plan that fits my needs. I felt heard and supported throughout the process, and I’ve noticed a significant improvement in my symptoms. I highly recommend Leasa to anyone looking for knowledgeable and caring psychiatric care.
Leasa is an outstanding listener. She has always been supportive in my growth and offers me insight that is thoughtful and on point. She is never judgemental and only wants what is best for the individual. Thank you for all you've done for me and I look forward to professional insights.
