“She was very attentive and wanted to take her time when going through my initial evaluation. She didn't want to miss anything important and really cared about me being seen. She was very helpful while also being knowledgeable and clear about what steps I should take after the appointment. Very awesome experience, and I would recommend her to anyone who feels disillusioned with the health care system.”

Getting to know Dr. Linda Mekang

Dr. Linda Mekang is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner through the American Nurses Credentialing Center. She began her nursing education by earning an Associate Degree in Nursing from Indian Hills Community College. She then completed her Bachelor's, Master's (with a concentration in mental health), and Doctor of Nursing Practice degrees at Walden University in Minnesota. Before pursuing nursing, Dr. Mekang earned a Bachelor of Law (LLB) from the University of Buea in Cameroon and a Master of Law (LLM) with a concentration in health and medical malpractice from American University's Washington College of Law in Washington, DC. The skills she developed during her law career-critical thinking, advocacy, research, problem-solving, and communication-are invaluable to her role as an advanced practice nurse practitioner. Dr. Mekang has worked in diverse nursing settings, including medical-surgical, long-term care, rehabilitation, hospice, detox, and acute and geriatric psychiatric units. She brings compassion, patience, and a strong commitment to breaking the stigma of mental illness to support individuals on their journey to recovery. Currently, Dr. Mekang works in an emergency psychiatric setting, providing immediate care to adults in crisis through psychiatric evaluation, crisis stabilization, medication initiation and reinitiation, and referrals to community resources.

What should a new client know about working with you?

As a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with a diverse background in both nursing and law, I approach each client with empathy, critical thinking, and a strong commitment to patient advocacy. My goal is to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where you feel heard and supported. I focus on individualized, evidence-based care and believe in working collaboratively to develop a treatment plan that fits your unique needs and goals. Whether you're in crisis or seeking long-term support, I am here to help you move toward recovery with compassion, patience, and respect.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process begins with a thorough psychiatric evaluation to understand your current concerns, medical and psychiatric history, and personal goals. From there, we collaboratively develop a personalized treatment plan, which may include medication management, crisis stabilization, and referrals to therapy or community resources as needed. I prioritize open communication and education throughout our work together, ensuring that you feel informed and empowered in every step of your care. Whether you’re navigating a mental health crisis or seeking ongoing support, I strive to provide consistent, compassionate, and evidence-based care.
