“Lisa was very light and comforting. She walked me through the whole process at my pace, start to finish. She listened to me when I would answer her questions or go onto tangents. I was hesitant about my appointment and she made me feel seen and heard.”

Getting to know Lisa Harrelson

Hello! I am Dr. Lisa Harrelson, a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. I earned my Master’s in Nursing and Doctor of Nursing Practice degrees from Holy Family University, and completed a Post-Master's Certificate in Family Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing at Chamberlain University - Chicago. I have been a clinical nurse since 2015 and transitioned to the role of nurse practitioner in 2022. Since then, I have been practicing as a family nurse practitioner and recognized the lack of available psychiatric and mental health services within my community. I now aim to provide care as a dual-certified family and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. My overarching goal is to help patients achieve resilience. Life is full of challenges that require unending resilience to navigate. I am warm, friendly, and compassionate. Sessions with me are collaborative. I believe active participation in your care helps both individuals and providers make the best treatment decisions. I also provide proficient medication management and brief psychotherapy techniques.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

At Flourish Psychiatry & Wellness, our process for working with clients is centered around collaboration and understanding, ensuring each patient receives the most effective and compassionate care. Initial Consultation The journey begins with an initial consultation, where we gather comprehensive insights into your personal history, current challenges, and wellness goals. This meeting is crucial for building trust and helps us to understand your unique situation deeply. Diagnostic Process The diagnostic process involves a detailed assessment to identify any underlying conditions. This may include structured interviews, questionnaires, and discussing any previous diagnoses or treatments. We believe in a holistic approach, considering the mental, physical, and emotional factors contributing to your wellness. Typical Session A typical session at Flourish might involve a combination of medication management and therapeutic practices. If medication is part of your treatment plan, the practitioner will discuss the options, possible side effects, and any necessary adjustments over time. For talk therapy, we offer an empathetic space for sharing thoughts, exploring feelings, and developing coping strategies. Our therapists use diverse, evidence-based practices like cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, or solution-focused therapy, tailored to suit your needs and preferences. Continuous Feedback and Adjustment We encourage open communication and feedback to ensure that treatment remains aligned with your evolving goals and circumstances. Regular sessions are designed to review progress, celebrate milestones, and make necessary adjustments to your care plan. Through each stage of the process, our commitment is to empower you with the tools and knowledge needed to flourish in your mental wellness journey.
