Loretta Armstrong, APRN

Adult Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
IL
I believe mental health care begins with feeling heard, respected, and understood. I’m Loretta Armstrong, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, and I provide compassionate, evidence-based care to children, adolescents, and adults experiencing ADHD, anxiety, depression, PTSD, bipolar disorder, OCD, grief, and other mental health concerns. My approach is warm, collaborative, and individualized. I take time to understand not only your symptoms, but also the life experiences, relationships, stressors, culture, and personal goals that may be affecting your well-being. Together, we develop a treatment plan that makes sense for you. My practice combines thoughtful medication management with supportive and therapeutic interventions when appropriate. I believe in explaining treatment options clearly, discussing benefits and potential risks, and making decisions together rather than simply telling you what to do. Whether you are seeking help for yourself or looking for support for your child or teenager, my goal is to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where you can speak openly and feel comfortable asking questions. Reaching out for mental health care can be difficult. You do not have to have everything figured out before your first appointment. We can start where you are and work together toward greater stability, confidence, and well-being.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach to mental health care is warm, compassionate, and collaborative. I believe you are more than a diagnosis, and I take time to understand your symptoms as well as the experiences, relationships, culture, strengths, and challenges that shape your life. I provide evidence-based psychiatric care while creating a comfortable, nonjudgmental environment where you can speak openly and feel heard. Treatment is individualized and may include medication management, psychotherapy, education, coping strategies, and lifestyle recommendations based on your needs and preferences. My therapeutic approach incorporates supportive psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) principles, mindfulness-based strategies, trauma-informed care, and culturally sensitive interventions. When appropriate, I also welcome a patient's personal values, spirituality, and faith as part of treatment. I work collaboratively with children, adolescents, adults, and families. My goal is not simply to reduce symptoms, but to help you better understand yourself, strengthen coping skills, improve daily functioning, and move toward a healthier and more fulfilling life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Your first appointment is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and understand what brings you to care. We’ll talk about your current concerns, symptoms, medical and mental health history, medications, sleep, daily functioning, relationships, and any life experiences or stressors that may be affecting your well-being. My approach is conversational and collaborative—you won’t feel rushed or judged. I want you to feel comfortable asking questions and sharing what matters most to you. For children and adolescents, parents or guardians are included as appropriate while also giving the young person an opportunity to feel heard. Together, we’ll discuss my clinical impressions and review treatment options, which may include medication, therapy recommendations, lifestyle strategies, or a combination of approaches. If medication is appropriate, we’ll review its purpose, benefits, potential side effects, and alternatives before making a decision together. You don’t need to have everything figured out before your appointment. Simply come as you are. My goal is for you to leave your first visit feeling heard, informed, and clear about the next steps in your care.

More information on payments and coverage

We want accessing mental health care to feel as straightforward as possible. Our practice accepts most major insurance plans and is approved to serve Medicare and Medicaid patients. Because coverage and benefits vary by plan, patients are encouraged to verify their specific mental health benefits and any copay, deductible, or coinsurance requirements before their appointment. For patients who prefer to pay out of pocket, our self-pay rates are: • Initial psychiatric consultation: $300 • Follow-up appointment: $200 We understand that the cost of care can sometimes be a concern. Reduced-cost services may be available in certain circumstances at the discretion of the practice. Please feel comfortable asking about available payment options when scheduling your appointment. Our goal is to provide transparent information about costs so you can make informed decisions about your care without unexpected surprises.
