About Dr. Lorraine Stern

Dr. Lorraine Stern was born and raised in Glen Rock, New Jersey. She got an early start on her medical career in high school as a Junior Volunteer at Valley Hospital and as an EMT on the Glen Rock Volunteer Ambulance Corps. After graduating from The Frisch School in Paramus, she attended The George Washington University from which she graduated summa cum laude with a BS in Biology. Following this, she attended The George Washington University School of Medicine where she graduated as valedictorian. During her seven years at GW, she was a supervisor with the Emergency Medical Response Group (EMeRG). At graduation, she was recognized for her commitment to EMS in the GW community as the inaugural recipient of the Stern-Emerson Award; in addition, she received an EMS Excellence award from Hackensack University Medical Center and a proclamation by the Mayor and Council of Glen Rock for her commitment to EMS in Glen Rock. Dr. Lorraine Stern completed her six year residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, which included instruction at University Hospitals of Cleveland, Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital, MetroHealth Medical Center, the level I trauma center for the region, and Louis Stokes Veterans Affairs Hospital. As part of her residency training, Dr. Lorraine Stern was awarded a prestigious Dudley P. Allen Research Fellowship where she spent a year studying the biomechanics of large bone allografts under Dr. Clare Rimnac in the Musculoskeletal Mechanics and Materials Laboratory at Case Western Reserve University. During her residency, she was published multiple times, presented her research at several national meetings, and was awarded a $10,000 research grant from AO Trauma North America. In addition, she co-authored a chapter in Skeletal Trauma in Children and she served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Case Orthopaedic Journal, a nationally circulated orthopaedic research journal.
