Getting to know Dr. Louisa Ayafor

I am a board-certified Psychiatrist with 16 years of experience providing care in outpatient and inpatient settings. I have been privileged to work with people across a broad spectrum of psychiatric conditions, from anxiety and mood disorders to complex trauma, thought disorders, and personality disorders. I earned my Doctor of Medicine from the American University of Integrative Sciences and completed my Psychiatry residency at East Carolina University. I currently focus on treating mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychosis, and ADHD in adults 18 and older. My approach is rooted in traditional psychiatry and faith-integrated treatment plans. I also have a client-centered approach and strongly encourage partnership in treatment decision-making. I aim to offer a non-judgmental environment where individuals can feel comfortable seeking help and create a welcoming space where patients feel heard, understood, and supported. I always start with an introductory session, where you can share your story and what you hope to achieve in treatment. We'll work together to figure this out! I also incorporate strategies that address lifestyle issues like sleep, nutrition, and stress management into my treatment plans and practice evidence-based medicine. By offering a holistic approach, I empower patients to take control of their mental health naturally and sustainably while providing hope and encouragement.

She is very kind and asked me a lot of questions to learn more about me. I appreciated her words of compassion at the end of our first session. I feel like I can be open and vulnerable with her and she just wants to help me find the best cocktail of meds that will allow me to function. I look forward to our next visit!
