About Dr. Luke Garbarino
Luke Garbarino, MD is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in Adult Reconstruction, including hip and knee arthroplasty surgery. He specializes in direct anterior hip replacement, total knee replacement, complex hip and knee replacement, robotic surgery, and the management in complications of hip and knee replacements.
Dr. Garbarino graduated from medical school as the second class at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell and was nominated to the Gold Humanism Society by his peers. He then completed his residency training in orthopaedics at Long Island Jewish Medical Center as part of the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell Orthopaedics Residency program. During residency, he received awards for Resident of the Year, Research Resident of the Year, the Dr. Leslie Sgaglione Humanism Award, and Dr. Vijay Rasquinha Excellence in Orthopedics Award. He also served as the Academic Chief Resident during his final year of residency. Dr. Garbarino then received further training at the Atrium Health-Wake Forest Baptist Health Adult Reconstruction Fellowship program. He is an active candidate member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS), serving as a reviewer for the Journal of Arthroplasty and as a member of the Fellows Orthopaedic Continued AAHKS Learning (FOCAL) committee.
As a native of Long Island, Luke is excited to return home to help patients with their hip and knee needs. He practices individualized care with a focus on shared decision making with his patients. He enjoys spending time with his family, travel, watching sports, as well as cooking.

I had high hopes for Dr. Garbarino, as I had done a lot of research before deciding on an Orthopedist for a potential popliteal tendon issue. Unfortunately, the first appointment I booked was canceled the day of a few hours before (“Zocdoc schedule is incorrect, doctor is not available”). I was told to reschedule on Zocdoc. I rescheduled and arrived to find that they didn’t even know I had an appointment. Told me the Zocdoc schedule was wrong again and the doctor is unavailable… again. They asked if I want to reschedule, as if he’s the only Ortho in the most doctor-saturated one-mile radius in the whole city. Of course I don’t want to reschedule… you made me waste two weeks waiting for an unavailable doctor… is dummy written on my forehead? I will find one that has a competent office, thank you.

I received a confirmation email and three messages, but when I arrived at the office, they told me the doctor was off that day and asked where I had made the appointment. After talking to someone else, they informed me that the doctor had gone out for surgery. I never received any phone call or message about this change. I don't know if this was a miscommunication between Zodoc and the doctor's office.
Can you believe it?
They asked me to make another appointment. I complained, and the manager appeared to apologize and gave me the same excuse. Eventually, she scheduled an appointment with another doctor for the next day. I appreciate her effort and help, but I'm still very upset.

I would recommend Dr. Garbarino to anyone with similar medical problems. He was attentive, knowledgeable and answered all my questions and concerns. He prescribed physical therapy which, I believe, is the correct remedy. Should I require orthopedic treatment in the future, I will call on him again.
