About Luke Tian
Dr. Tian received his bachelor degree of Medicine (equivalent to MD in US) in Hunan College of Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), Hunan, China. He has started his TCM practice since 1984 in the affiliated hospital of Hunan Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine & Meteria Medica. In 1990, he received his master degree of TCM oncology in the same Academy. In 1995, he received his Ph.D degree in Cancer Pharmacology in Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Sciences in Guangzhou, China. From 1997 to 2005, he worked as research associate in Howard Hughes Medical Institute in School of Medicine University of Pennsylvania and Lombardi Cancer Center at Georgetown University Medical Center. From 2003, he started to practice in Rockville of Maryland as an acupuncturist. Half of his patients are cancer and leukemia patients and another half are ones with varieties of pain and chronic conditions. His clinic offers following services:
• The complementary treatments for cancer with acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. The goal of such a treatment is to improve quality of life and prolong life span by minimizing the side effects from conventional treatments, such as surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy and immunotherapy, while providing some level of synergistic therapeutic effects with conventional treatments.

I was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) back in 1993. Since then I saw an alternative doctor, and went on the Gerson protocol (a lot of raw vegetable juices), and IV vitamin C therapy. This worked for awhile, then stopped working well around the late 1990s. Fortunately, I came across a Yahoo Group for Alternative Therapies for CLL. One of the contributers to the forum was Ellen, a patient of Dr Tian, and highly recommended him to me. She sent me some pictures of how her swollen lymph nodes in her neck disappeared.
In 2000, I was able to see Dr Tian, and was really impressed with his knowledge of CLL and other cancers, he even knew more about the diagnostic genetic markers for CLL then my CLL oncologist!
In my case, he had specific acupuncture points that helped with my low platelets, and Traditional Chinese Formulas (TCM) that helped with my Platelets, CLL, and Gall Bladder.
I highly recommend Dr Tian, for Cancer treatment or other medical issues!

Pancreatic cancer is well known for its poor prognosis when treated with conventional medicine alone. Dr. Tian's specialized acupuncture protocols and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) have helped reduce the side effects of my conventional treatments while complementing their effectiveness. His care has significantly improved my quality of life and contributed to my long-term survival. I remain hopeful that, with his continued treatment, I may ultimately achieve a cure.
I have been a patient at Dr. Tian's Rockville clinic for over five years. His acupuncture treatments have supported my overall well-being by relieving pain, promoting relaxation, and enhancing my body's natural healing processes. Throughout my treatment, I have also seen improvements in my CA 19-9 tumor marker levels.

I am writing this testimonial for Dr. Tian in June, 2026. This date marks 15 years showing no evidence of cancer since I was diagnosed with metastatic colo-rectal cancer in 2011.
During my initial visit with Dr. Tian, in 2009, I learned of his background in both Traditional Chinese Medicine, his Masters in TCM oncology, and his PhD in cancer pharmacology.
Since I started seeing Dr. Tian, I have had one cancer recurrence; in 2011, the cancer spread to my lungs and I had three tumors removed in September of that year.
In 2016, I was still showing no evidence of cancer. My oncologist told me that in only about 1 case in 100 does cancer stop spreading once it has started. Also, he told me told me that I am the only patient he has had in 25 years of practice who has shown no evidence of cancer for 5 years after metastatic cancer occurred.

Dr Tian is very professional and thorough in listening to symptoms, noting any medical data provided by the patient and making observations of the patient’s general TCM physical signs. He determines a treatment plan usually involving herbs and acupuncture and conducts acupuncture on the first visit if the patient agrees. Dr Tian is unusually qualified, trained as a PhD in western oncology as well as a degree in TCM. He also worked as a researcher at major US universities medical research centers. He works with the patient often as a complement to western medical treatment and is knowledgeable of any special circumstances as they might arise and makes adjustments to his treatment plan as needed. My experience has been unambiguously positive and I believe he had clearly contributed to my quality of life and my longevity for 17 years despite a serious and life altering medical condition that I was diagnosed with 17 years ago.

I can't recommend Dr. Tian highly enough. I was referred to him by an integrative cancer doc after seeing several other highly recommended acupuncturists. While those practitioners helped a bit, there is simply no comparison to the level of care and results I experienced with Dr. Tian.
When I first came to him, I was struggling with significant pain & mobility issues related to cancer treatment. Dr. T helped me feel better almost immediately. His treatments have played a major role in improving my quality of life throughout treatment. I consistently leave treatments feeling brighter, lighter, calmer & more positive. His care has helped support both my physical and emotional well being.
Dr. T is compassionate, knowledgeable & genuinely invested in his patients. I always feel cared for as a whole person, not just a collection of symptoms. I'm incredibly grateful for his care & the difference he has made in my life. I can't recommend Dr. Tian highly enough.

For two months, I only slept 4 to 5 hours a night and woke up constantly between 2:00 and 4:00 AM. After two acupuncture sessions with Dr. Luke, my sleep drastically improved. I continue to see him, and today I am mostly recovered and getting 6 to 7 hours of sleep past 6:00 AM. I highly recommend him for his deep professionalism, excellent technique, and peaceful clinic environment.

Dr Luke is an extremely experienced and knowledgable acupuncture practitioner who has a kind, funny and friendly bedside manner. As I nurse myself, bedside manner is extremely important to me. I was seen as soon as I arrived by Dr. Luke himself. At this visit, I had my back treated as I have had trouble walking with pain in my lower back and swollen legs. I was able to pinpoint the pain for Dr Luke for treatment. Leaving I was walking much better and this morning I was 5 pounds lighter. So happy once again with my treatment. I have seen Dr. Luke over the past few years for knee pain, shoulder pain, quitting smoking, stress and grief following my husbands death. I no longer take an antidepressant and currently take no medications even though I’m 65. Dr. Luke also specializes in Chinese herbs which I believe has led to success keeping off medication and avoiding knee surgery so far. If you want a holistic experience in Eastern medicine Dr. Luke is a fabulous provider!

I had a very positive experience with Luke Acupuncture & Herbology Center. The accuracy of Dr. Luke’s diagnosis and treatment is excellent. He takes the time to understand the root cause of symptoms and provides targeted acupuncture treatments that have been highly effective for my stomach issues and prostatitis.
Dr. Luke also has strong educational and professional training in China, combined with extensive clinical experience in the United States. This combination gives me a lot of confidence in his approach and treatment methods.
The pricing is very reasonable, especially considering the high quality of care. The copayment feels fair for the level of expertise and attention provided during each session.
Overall, I highly recommend Dr. Luke for anyone seeking reliable and professional acupuncture treatment.
