Getting to know Dr. Mariah Carroll

Dr. Mariah Carroll is a native New Yorker and a board-certified psychiatrist with special interests in women’s health, mood, and psychosis spectrum diagnoses. She earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine (TOUROCOM) in Harlem, NY. Dr. Carroll completed her psychiatric residency at Kaiser Permanente San Jose Medical Center in California and is thrilled to be serving patients in her home state. She believes that psychiatry, unlike other medical disciplines, is essential not only to prolong life but also to make each day more meaningful and fulfilling. Recognizing that each person is unique with different needs, Dr. Carroll pays close attention to this at every visit. She loves getting to know her patients and seeing them succeed. Dr. Carroll works as a teammate with her patients and strives to maintain a respectful, empowering atmosphere.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Dr. Carroll loves to get to know and laugh with her patients. Creating an open safe where vulnerability is welcomed helps achieve greater goals. Talking about mental health can be hard but it can also be relieving and fun!

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Mental health is a two-way process. The way we think and act affects our surroundings/life, as do our surroundings and life situations affect our mental health. The first step is learning more about your life and how it contributes to how you're feeling. If it's something we can change, great! If it's not, then we'll work together to come up with a plan--either with medicine and/or therapy--that not only makes you comfortable, but helps bring happiness and hope back into your daily life.
