Getting to know Dr. Marie Campagnone

I hold a Doctor of Medicine degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine and completed my residency in Psychiatry at The George Washington University Hospital. Additionally, I pursued a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Virginia Treatment Center for Children. With 30 years of clinical experience treating adults, children, and families, I provide psychopharmacological treatment as well as various types of therapy. I treat a variety of psychiatric conditions including stress, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia. I believe that medication and therapy should be individually tailored to meet each patient's particular needs. To achieve this, I employ a variety of treatment modalities and combine medication with therapy as warranted.

Most absurd psychiatry appointment I've ever. It totaled 9 minutes. Dr. Campagnone refused to refill my prescription or assess me and told me my PHP is lazy, gaslighting me, "don't know who they're dealing with," and can refill my prescription themselves. I didn't understand what she meant, so I asked if I could put someone from the PHP on the phone with her. She said no and provided no elaboration. Then, I asked if I would still be expected to pay for my appointment after being refused medication and assessments, and she said, "Yes, and it would be deserved. I gave you valuable information." I started to ask if she could include in my medical notes that she was refusing to refill my prescription, but she interrupted me and said, "I have other clients to get to." Then, she abruptly hung up. Again, this was 9 minutes into what was supposed to be a 30 minute appointment. I am baffled and have no idea what happened.

She didn’t seem to want to help me refill my xanax prescription, especially because I told her I wanted to switch my provider. She kept telling me to go to my primary doctor, but I explained that I didn’t want to see him anymore. She prescribed me for prozac for my PMDD, but said I needed to make another appointment if I wanted xanax (for my fear of flying). I’ve found a better provider.

I don't understand why they send the prescription to the pharmacy the next day instead of the same day as the appointment, like all doctors do; it just takes seconds for a prescription to be sent electronically; they must be very backward at that office

I booked an appointment less than 24-hours in advance and got in to see the doctor! This is unheard of for specialists. I explained the impossible issues I’m facing with insurance and Dr. C. told me exactly the verbiage I need to use when talking to the insurance company. I cried in the middle of my very first appointment from the relief I felt from finally being helped. THANK YOU!

Dr. Campagnone is great! She listened to everything I had to say, and offered good advice and potential solutions, explaining my options to me. Highly recommend this practice.

Dr. Campagnone is extremely knowledgeable, meticulous, efficient, effective, and yet easygoing with an outstanding bedside manner, despite her palpable professionalism and deep and broad experience in psychology and pharmacology. From appointment one, it’s evident she’s an expert when it comes to medication management , but also engaging her patients and understanding their unique issues so she can best address them. Wow. A.B.

Don’t bother booking with Dr. Campagnone. Had an hour long appointment and she spoke to me for maybe 15 minutes, hardly asked any questions about me or my history, and immediately recommended medication. No bedside manner or empathy. Don’t waste your time unless you’re just looking for someone to write a prescription.

I met with Dr. Campagnano via Zoom. It was abundantly clear that she had not read my intake paperwork. She did not conduct a proper mental health assessment. She did not ask anything about me or my symptoms or history. When I expressed concern, she told me that if I didn't like her advice, I should go elsewhere. She spent approximately 15 minutes of the allotted 30 minute appointment before telling me not to make another appointment if I don't want to see her again. She was unprofessional, aggressive, unkind, and insulting. She over talked me and talked down to me. I have never been more mistreated by a so-called doctor in my life. I remained polite but wish I had stood up for myself. I do not recommend her to anyone.

DoctorCampagnone is a highly qualified professional, excellent and compassive listener. I felt supported and understood. It was a very good medical and professional experience. Thank you so much.

Not listening to me and talking to me in a condescending way; I had the worst experience with a psychiatrist in my life. Not recommended at all!

They accept my insurance but still sent me a hefty bill in which I couldn’t pay for when I tried reaching out to them several times I still haven’t got a response from them I am totally dissatisfied with their services and will not recommend

I was charged for an appointment but she wasn’t able to help because the intake form was not filled out however I was never sent an intake form or received any communication from the receptionist. She asked me to call them and ask for a form and set up another appointment. Waste of money.

She was 17 months late. Unapologetic she didn’t want to speak to my daughter. And I spoke for 10 min and she cut me off and gave one suggestion and was VERY rude and PALPABLE irritated. I’m surprised she is in this field and does video calls. I couldn’t believe how bad this was. Late, rude, and VERY VEEY impatient. Seemed that she was under the assumption I didn’t like her recommendation. But I wasn’t and want d to talk it through. She wasn’t I. The mood. I’m not an expert in this field and I think she assume everyone knows what to do

I am a dusautonomia patient who is currently weaning off of Xanax to go on a safer long term medication that’s not a benzodiazepine. The nurses at John Hopkins POTS center have been amazing helping me do this so that am I am able to find long term healthier care. They referred me to a psychiatrist after they felt it was in my best interest to go on a safer medication. My PCP & cardiologist felt the same. I spoke with this psychiatrist to discuss long term care since my doctors thought it was in my best interest to get off of benzos and she immediately shut me down & said that it was their job to get me on something long term for panic and not hers….. She also told me that she would just put me on klonopin (another benzo) if i came back….. if you have a chronic illness, it’s in your best interest to go elsewhere. I was hoping she would help me ): but maybe she was just having a bad day? She was nicer when I spoke with her on our first consult so i’m unsure what happened…

I didn’t appreciate being laughed at by my provider when I had questions about possibly being on the spectrum. I didn’t find the question funny and it made it very uncomfortable and awkward to communicate during the rest of the visit.

very cold communication manner. not for me.

friendly, understanding, helpful and good listening doctor. office style a bit confusing, outdated and frustrating. good experience overall.

I found Dr. C to be awesome! She is a strong and caring individual with a great deal of knowledge & insight. I found her to be engaging, funny, and showed a lot of patience. I did not feel rushed, and felt very heard and validated. I highly recommend Dr. C!

Unlike other ZocDoc appointments I have made, scheduling an appointment with this provider did not actually schedule an appointment although there was nothing that indicated that. I was made aware of this when I called in to see why the appointment screen was saying appointment pending. At that point I was told that I did not actually have an appointment but they could make it for me. They did not take any medical intake info which made my appointment a waste of time and money as I was told by the doctor that she needed info/release from my neurologist. Also, the doctor was a bit irritated with my poor connection and at one point told me I needed to keep talking (rather than take a moment to get to a better reception area) since she still had another appointment after me even though she needed our appointment after about 15 mins (leaving about 15 mins let in my session).

Office was very professional and called to confirm my appointment and guide me through the process of setting up my video visit. Dr. Campagnone was very efficient, friendly, and empathetic. Would highly recommend!
