After college, she conducted research on insulin in a Molecular Biology and Physiology lab at a medical school. This was followed by an internship at a silicon wafer manufacturer, which led her to a semiconductor startup in Silicon Valley. She later moved to Texas to work for the silicon wafer manufacturer, during which time she obtained her MBA. After graduating, she held various roles in the Leadership Program with AT&T and spent her last few years as a Project Manager for AT&T Labs (formerly Bell Labs). Prior to earning her Master’s in Acupuncture, Marisa earned degrees in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, in addition to her MBA with a focus on investment finance. After moving to Washington state in late 2010, a calling came in late 2018 for her to pursue Chinese Medicine—something she had been interested in studying since 2008, ten years prior. Marisa became an acupuncturist because of her interest in medicine and all aspects of wellness and healing, both as a patient and as a practitioner. She is also deeply interested in the esoteric embodiment of energy healing. Her work history in science and business, combined with experience in medical research and technical startups, gives her a unique left-brain skepticism; yet she embraces the balance of the spiritual and energetic aspects of healing from the right brain. Marisa has a solid understanding of general sciences and is well aware of scientific logic and concepts. Yet she believes one must also acknowledge what isn’t always visible to the eye—the spiritual aspect of our overall well-being.
