Marlisha Thomas is an ambitious psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner with extensive experience assisting adults with depression, anxiety, panic, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and sleep disorders. She earned her Master's in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing from the University of Alabama, Birmingham. Marlisha works hard to provide her clients a safe zone and a place to feel heard while freely being themselves. She takes the time to know her clients to help create and sustain a positive mental health journey.

What should a new client know about working with you?
I spend time getting to know the client by learning their hobbies, their method preferences, and their dislikes to help tailor care. I also spend time assessing physical symptoms and ruling out medical causes to ensure optimal results. I strongly believe progress is determined by the client’s perception. Treatment plans are created with the provider rather than dictated to the client. Our success is based on client outcomes.
There is a supervising psychiatrist on staff for consulting.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
Initial assessments range from 60-90 minutes and the follow-up appointments range from 15-45 minutes in length (depending on the client's needs). All new client paperwork will be given to you electronically prior to the appointment to make the day of the appointment a breeze. If paperwork is not submitted at least 24 hrs prior to appointment, we will have to reschedule.

I have been seeing another psychiatrist for 3 years and feel like I should be farther along in my mental health journey than I am now. Marlisha asked a bunch of valid questions and was able to diagnose the root problem of my mental health struggles in the first visit. We made a treatment plan and she discussed everything thoroughly with me. She was a straight shooter no BS kind of provider which I appreciated. Marlisha is kind, transparent, and is no BS in the best way. She gets on your level w/ you, celebrate your wins, talk through your struggles with compassion and has an unwavering commitment to your wellbeing. I’ve watched her deduce how I think and she’s used that to help me in a unique manner that aligned with my thought pattern so we could achieve my well-being goals and I could finally get out of my own way.
Of my many psych practitioners I’ve worked with over the yrs, she’s the only one who talks to me like I’m a person first and a patient second. She’s present in our sessions and meets me where I’m at.
She has always respected my wishes regarding how I want to receive care and meds I’ve been comfortable with vs not. She doesn’t push her agenda. She has always been candid about pros vs cons of various options with the intention of guiding you, not bullying or forcing you to do what she wants.
I recommend her to everyone I know who’s looking for a psych, esp. for ADHD support!
