I am a patient-centered, approachable, and warm provider. My vision for mental health care is holistic, considering physical, mental, emotional, social, and sleep health. I earned my Doctor of Medicine from the University of North Carolina. My goal is to deliver care above the standard of care, so I spend a lot of time thinking about the most therapeutic approach to take for each client. After an extensive evaluation, I thoroughly explain the diagnosis and walk you through treatment options. To minimize long-term side effects, I use the minimum amount of medications needed to help you accomplish your goals.

Getting to know Dr. Marquis Peacock

What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe that quality mental health care should be a partnership, so every step of our time together will be collaborative. I come into every session with open-mindedness and warmth because there is nothing harder than asking for help when you are struggling. I prioritize effective communication and using the least amount of medications needed to accomplish your goals (to minimize long-term side effects).

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My initial approach is problem focused because I believe that the first goal of treatment should be to reduce immediate distress, if a person is suffering. This may include use of medication or therapy techniques focused on addressing the underlying problem. After initial symptoms improve, then we can focus on either addressing new goals and problems, uncovering unconscious feelings that may have contributed to the problem, or reducing then stopping care. Your goals and values guide your treatment.
