Getting to know Mary Tobey
I have extensive experience working at an in-patient psychiatric hospital treating persistently mentally ill individuals, as well as working outpatient, providing short-term mental health treatment. My specialty is treating mood disorders such as anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, mania, and other brain disorders like schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder. I also specialize in treating ADHD and am an ADHD Clinical Service Provider (ADHD-CCSP), which means I have extra training in the diagnosis and treatment of ADHD. Additionally, I help patients manage weight gain caused by psychiatric medications. I earned my Master’s in Nursing from Maryville University, St. Louis. I am accepting new patients from ID, OR, and WA.
What should a new client know about working with you?
My name is Mary, I go by "Maria". I have been working in mental health nursing for the past 10 years, and nursing in general for the past 24 years. My greatest joy is connecting with my patients at a human level and helping them realize the strengths within themselves to achieving a more calm and peaceful life. My style of engaging with patients is holistic. I believe in meeting the needs of the mind, the body and soul, for a more fulfilled existence. My clients can expect to feel more hopeful, understood, and empowered after a session with me.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
After confirming your appointment on Zocdoc, I will reach out to you via my practice website HEADWAY and ask that you complete other important pre-appointment information. Follow the link provided by HEADWAY to complete that information. Please note that if you do not provide that information on HEADWAY, your Zocdoc appointment will be canceled.
A typical intake session is 1 hour long. During this time i perform an in-depth psychiatric evaluation to understand your psychiatric history. At this session I am able to determine our working diagnosis based of the DSM5, come up with a treatment plan, which includes medication management. If a patient needs talk therapy i refer them to local therapist because I do not practice talk therapy. I only specialize in medication management.
A typical follow-up session is about 30 minutes long where I look at the patient's progress, medication tolerance, adjust medication doses, and adjust the treatment plan as needed.

I’ve never had such an unpleasant and unhelpful experience with a healthcare provider. Mary was glaring at me the moment she joined our video call, and was completely dismissive of and disinterested in hearing about my experiences. She made no effort to ask questions or gather additional information about my symptoms after hearing my initial description, and instead coldly wrote me off and sent me on my way as soon as she could. She offered no insight or guidance regarding my situation whatsoever. I got absolutely nothing out of this appointment.
