She attended Wagner College in Staten Island, NY, for both her undergraduate degree and her Master's in Physician Assistant Studies, graduating in 2013. She then completed a one-year Post-Graduate Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant Residency at NewYork-Presbyterian / Weill Cornell Medicine and spent the first nine years of her career as an Emergency Medicine PA at Weill Cornell Medicine / Lower Manhattan Hospital. After years of practicing in a traditional acute-care setting, Maryellen developed a growing interest in complementary and regenerative medicine. She joined HMS part-time in 2021 and transitioned to full-time shortly after. As lead clinician in Manhattan, she sees the widest range of cases at HMS — insurance-covered wound and radiation patients alongside off-label HBOT for brain injury, surgical recovery, and performance. Patients arriving after a long course of conventional treatment should bring imaging, operative reports, and specialist notes; her emergency medicine training is most useful when there's a complicated history to sort through.
