About Dr. Matthew Kerr
Dr. Matthew Kerr L.Ac., DACM, Dipl. OM received his doctorate in acupuncture and Chinese medicine from American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and is a graduate of Pacific College of Health and Science with a Masters of Science in Traditional Oriental Medicine where he completed over 1000 hours of clinical internship, as well as in-depth studies of biomedicine, herbalism, and Chinese medical theory. He is nationally board certified in acupuncture and Chinese herbalism by the NCCAOM. Matthew received his B.A. in Psychology and a B.F.A. in Drawing and Painting from the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas.
Dr. Kerr has a special focus on treating psycho-emotional issues such as stress, anxiety, depression, bi-polar disorders and has extensive experience with treating trauma. He also treats the physical aspects of pain including headaches, migraines, neck pain, upper and lower back tension. Dr. Kerr also enjoys supporting his patients with men's and women's health and fertility. He is certified in the Mei Zen cosmetic acupuncture protocol and enjoys educating his patients on the importance of taking care of your skin from the inside out.
Dr. Kerr also has a particular interest in opening his treatment space to the LGBTQ+ community. He was instrumental in creating the community acupuncture program from 2013-2014 with TPAN (Test Positive Awareness Network) here in Chicago to help bring treatment to those that need it most and may not have the ability to seek alternative healthcare.
He enjoys spending his downtime with friends and loved ones exploring Chicago. He also likes finding new and interesting vegetarian restaurants and recipes. If he is not out exploring, he enjoys relaxing at home with a movie or finding fun new show to watch on Netflix

Matthew approached my issue holistically and by doing so, helped educate me on behaviors that could exacerbate or alleviate my condition. His knowledge and persona put me at ease immediately, and his concern for my progress and comfort reflects a practitioner who truly cares about his patients. I can't recommend Matthew Kerr highly enough.

Matthew is great! I've been seeing him on and off for a while for chronic neck pain. After a few treatments of acupuncture and cupping, I feel great. He explains everything before we begin and tells me what to expect. I highly recommend Matthew!

It's tricky to say enough good things about Matthew! I started seeing him for support with anxiety and have continued to see him through a cancer diagnosis and treatment. He has been super helpful with general strategies and support through all of it and his acupuncture knowledge and skills are incredible. He's a great listener, thoughtful and compassionate, and absolutely great at what he does.

Matthew has really helped me with anxiety and managing stress. He recommended different techniques for me to try and I have had a lot of success through his guidance.
If anyone has mental health struggles, pain management or any other issue they have dealt with, he will research to customize a treatment plan specifically for you.
I am hopeful that others will try to get help through this process.

Matthew is amazing. I’ve suffered from back pain for 10-15 years. I’ve been going to Matthew for 3-4 weeks now for acupuncture and cupping. Remarkable improvement and pain relief. Way better than the opioids prescribed by other doctors. He’s super nice, very knowledgeable. Gets results fast. I’m kicking myself for not doing this sooner.

Matthew was my first Acupuncture provider, and I highly recommend him... he was very patient and answered all my questions / addressed all my concerns before we started treatment (so that I was super comfortable with the plan going into things). He also really listened to my symptoms and goals and customized a treatment plan specifically targeted to my needs, which was amazing. Finally - he introduced me to CUPPING as one part of my treatment plan, which was life giving for my super tense/tight traps and scaps! Highly recommend.

Matthew is one of the most compassionate and knowledgeable practitioners I have come across. He creates a space that is welcoming and does an amazing job of making sure your concerns are heard and understood. He asks relevant questions and is willing to give an explanation should you have questions about why he's using a certain approach to your care. I have seen multiple Acupuncturists over the past 5 years and Matthew is by far my favorite! I refer all my friends to Matthew!

I'm really glad that Aligned Modern Health has Matthew and that he's at the Andersonville clinic so close to my house. My wife and have seen Matthew for several years, following him through several Aligned clinics....we like him that much. He's incredibly thoughtful about his treatment and in explaining a treatment plan, and why he thinks it will help. Most importantly, he's an effective acupuncturist; he's successfully helped me reduce some general anxiety during Covid and, prior to that, eliminate shoulder pain that's bugged me for years. I highly recommend him.
