Dr. Maxim Tyorkin, MD

Orthopedic Surgeon, Sports Medicine Specialist

Professional statement

As a trained specialist of sports medicine and arthroscopy I treat a myriad of shoulder, hip, knee, elbow and ankle injuries. Specific rehabilitation for these injuries and disorders are prescribed and supervised by myself as the treating physician. Most injuries can be treated non-operatively, but when surgery is necessary, arthroscopic small incision techniques are generally utilized. These techniques allow for quicker recovery, less pain, and improved cosmesis. Before a treatment plan is implemented, I believe patients should be fully educated about their condition, so that they may participate in the decision-making process. Each patient has different functional demands and lifestyle expectations, and treatment should be tailored to meet each patient's individual needs. When surgical treatment is indicated, I take the time to explain the risks and benefits of surgery to each patient. It is very important for the patient to understand the details of the rehabilitation process, as well the expected outcome after surgery. **PLEASE NOTE THE OFFICE DOES NOT ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS**

This is the second time I’m visiting Dr. Tyorkin and I was very happy with the quality of my treatment. I’m usually very suspicious about NY doctors and in the past was disappointed by their lack of knowledge. However with DrTyorkin, I feel he is very knowledgeable. He examined me, seems that he knew immediately what’s happening. He took the time to explain to me exactly what’s wrong with my spine, even brought a spine model to help me understand. He was nice and very patient, elaborated on the issue in simple words and answered all my questions. I did not feel rushed. Office staff were extremely nice and helpful.

The reception area is very welcoming, the secretary was more than nice, she leaves her desc and walk to the seating to talk and help patients who have hard time walking. The Doctor was pleasant, took x-rays on the premises, tookthe time to explain his findings explaining the x-ray image and skeleton parts in his office. For a person that suffers pain, it's a place to go and be treated. the less than 30 minutes wait, was not bad, they have a collection of very nice paintings that made me feel relaxed and i didn't mind a little wait. So much better than other places that I visited.

The doctor barely spoke during my assessment. Literally asked me two questions during my 5 minute evaluation. Was very uncomfortable. He decided I needed an MRI...staff said they would call when they received my pre authorization. Never called.I called them and got script info- they never sent it to the imaging office. All around nightmare. Will get my MRI results and take them to a different doctor.

He didn't spend more than 5 minutes speaking with me, told me to put on a boot for my foot and walked away to the next appointment. Then the receptionist gave me a note with an address to go purchase aboot for my ankle. When I arrived a the facility [on crutches] they informed me they don't sell the boot at the address provided [and I asked if that was the correct address].

I went there as I had leg pain after increasing my jogs/walks from 2.5 miles to 3.5-5 miles assuming it was a over use injury. He was dismissive and almost mocking about the walking and didn't understand why I would bethere as apparently I should have known the pain is muscular/vascular and not bone related. He asked why I would be recommended to see him, and I stated because the pain started when I increased intensity and miles - he didn't respond. He gave me a card of a vascular person. He was just unengaged and dismissive, even if I was wrong in my assumption I would still expect a doctor to show some interest in me as a paying patient.

Doctor Tyorkin was very thorough. He took his time to explain the procedure in detail and answer all my questions with no signs of being annoyed or in a hurry. He really paid attention to what I was saying. The downsideis that the staff at the front desk lacks interpersonal skills. One of the ladies seemed annoyed!

Dr Tyorkin really knows what he is doing. He didn't try to oversell and made sure every aspect was reviewed before recommending the surgery. The aftercare was just as good as the pre-care and the recovery was within the expectations heset out. His bedside manner is a little off-putting at first, but once you push past that barrier and he knows you want to know everything that is going on, he is very communicative.

VERY slow response time. I had an MRI that reached his office on a Friday and it took me calling incessantly for a week to receive any results, let alone a call back or email response back. Even after obtaining theseresults I am waiting to hear back for a referral that I was promised to have by email a week ago. The day of the initial appointment was great, lovely office and he was very prompt and focused, but since then it has not been a very good experience.
